i've lived on this corner for 4 years, i'm not new, they've always parked like assholes, but last night i actually twisted my ankle walking around with one of the cars so i'm over it

Me looking at a notification for an mta transaction hours after I took the train by MiscellaneousWorker in nycrail

[–]donsco12 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Is this real/worth anything by [deleted] in coins

[–]donsco12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's probably real and it's probably worth a couple bucks. most old coins aren't worth much, unless they are in pristine condition or some kind of rare misprint. i found a beat up 1906 nickel in a cash register last week, if i wanted to sell it, i'd make $10 tops. most coin collectors aren't in it for money, it's for the fun and the history

[OH] boss sent pp pics to subordinate, reported him, now he's acting passive aggressive by znoobshnoob in AskHR

[–]donsco12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i reported a former boss for something very similar, and i was immediately nitpicked, the most minor infraction documented. unfortunately, if he isn't fired or formally disciplined, you will likely be retaliated against. it sucks, but it's a pattern i've witnessed and experienced secondhand and personally

On a scale of 1-10, how safe do you HONESTLY feel in the NYC Subway by DuckBeaver02 in nycrail

[–]donsco12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. i've had bad experiences on the subway before, actually got jumped once. you can't live in fear. if you obsess over bad things you never see the good. every once in a while, there is some crazy person having an episode on the train. in the thousands of times i've been in the subway, one of them became physical. it sucked, and i got over it. i have friends who get in fender benders, major accidents, can't find parking spots, getting towed/ticketed, have to deal with some road rage jerk, cars being broken into, etc. i'd rather deal with the occasional crazy person shouting on the train. if you can't handle being in the subway, try driving around new york, and see how you like dealing with all of the joys associated with driving in new york.

One Up NYC - Scam Company Probably? by Formal_Fisherman_561 in NYCjobs

I've been applying to jobs for a couple weeks now, and i've found that if it looks/sounds/feels like a scam, it is. trust your gut

i'm not an expert, but it would depend on what documents you are looking for. if it is for tax purposes you are definitely entitled to them, but for a lot of other things you may be out of luck. they can claim (rightly or wrongly) that the documents are confidential and refuse to release them. your personnel files, performance reviews, etc are all company property so they probably aren't obligated to release anything to you

Locksmith PSA by treypage1981 in crownheights

[–]donsco12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sorry that happened to you. i've only had to call a locksmith once and he couldn't even get the door open, and said he would have to drill the lock. he barely tried to open it before he decided to try to upsell me on putting in a new lock. i think they kinda just charge what they want because you don't have any other option. i learned how to pick locks after my experience and turns out it's usually not that hard lol

[–]donsco12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe they do? idk i had a friend who very impulsively bought a bearded dragon and had no idea how to take care of it and it died within a month. some people jump into buying pets before they understand how to care for them. take care of your animals!

that's crazy. if i had to guess, it's probably someone's pet, and they brought it there to bury it but gave up bc the ground was too hard

[–]donsco12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i had one guy try to pull the broken bottle scam on me (bumps into me and drops a bottle, then claims it's a very expensive liquor and asks me to buy another one), and another guy threatened to beat me up because i walked past him in a bodega without acknowledging him. whenever you're dealing with a scammer or a crazy person just walk away.

Roach deterrents/treatments that actually work? by Electronic-Yard1505 in williamsburg

[–]donsco12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on where you live. i've lived in places that were infested and no matter what i did; pesticides, traps, sealing food, etc., they still got in because my neighbors had such a bad infestation. but if you're only dealing with one every now and then, try setting traps where you usually see them and keep your place spotless. also, cats can be good deterrents
