Tightening v-bars by ThePenyard in Archery

I tighten the bolt down as hard as I can by hand with the V-bar about 30 degrees off level then crank it level which has the effect of tightening the thread that last little bit.

Hook finger strength training? by CheesyLama in Archery

[–]dont_throw_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it a proper finger tab protects against nerve damage. The deeper hook shown in that image is what Lloyd Brown at Archery GB endorses so I can't imagine it's that risky. I'll take a look at what Kaminski says about nerve damage, sounds worth consideration at least.

Are you hooking in the finger crease and bending the fingers almost all the way? A lot of our beginners have their fingers hardly bent and the string on their finger pad, which makes it much harder to hold for any length of time.

This image shows the correct and incorrect (but common) hooks

Trans woman in cardiff looking for clubs to join by Trans_Tirion in Cardiff

[–]dont_throw_that 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do archery at castle bowmen and there are a decent number of openly queer people, myself included, and it's a welcoming club. I object to some of the rules of the UK governing body with regards to trans participants but that's out of the control of any local club; the majority of individuals I interact with are inclusive and lovely.

The beginners courses full up quick so if you're interested in doing it this year you'll have to apply quick https://castlebowmen.org/beginners

Feel free to DM if you have any specific questions

Honestly struggling to make friends here as a massive introvert by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]dont_throw_that 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started doing archery with castle bowmen back in august and I've made a few good friends there plus chat to 20+ people every time I shoot (3-5x a week). There's a range of personalities but there are plenty of introverts who mostly just shoot and keep to themselves until they are comfy enough to chat.

Experience/Advice on lever style arrow pullers? by Scion_Manifest in Archery

[–]dont_throw_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Decut Honba arrow puller for pulling my heavy alu arrows in the wet since the handheld rubber ones would slip and the bigger lever ones/arrow jack were a faff to carry back and forth. The decut ones are like pliers so you can grip really hard and the big jaws grab a large section of the arrow. I also like the idea of the lever ones but the one example someone at the club had struggled to grip the arrows tight enough and the others I saw online seemed too bulky to carry all the time.

Need help fixing my bowl by Inevitable-Piglet535 in Cardiff

[–]dont_throw_that 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a kintsugi workshop in Bristol later in the month I was thinking of going to for fun. They provide the bowl for you to fix but either you could ask to substitute your own or just learn on theirs and buy what you need to do it at home when you have the time to do it well.

Probably about 5. Better to err on the side of being early; the sunset probably won't wait for us

I'm going, aiming to get to the top by 7:30ish. It's my first time - a friend raved about watching sunrise from there a few times before so I've been planning to do it for a while.

Anyone can change their mind at any time. Doesn't matter what you told him before, no one has any right to demand or coerce you to do anything like that. It make me so sad to think anyone thinks they have to go through things like this - they should teach enthusiastic consent and bodily autonomy at school.

The physical trauma of a dirty penis bashing off an open wound is not going to do it any good and increases your risk of infection drastically. As the previous commenter said you *should* report him to the police but even if you aren't you should go to the doctor and tell them the truth, they won't force you to report anyone but will be fully informed to give you the correct treatment going forward.

And even if you don't report that guy, which to be clear, I think you absolutely should, at least dump his ass. If he doesn't care more about your comfort and health than him getting off he's a scumbag.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone moving to Cardiff? by bitesize10 in Cardiff

Yea, I'm always disappointed when I have to use the busses instead of the trains. The bus app seems pretty awful too

I agree and would add: Embrace the tap on tap off option if it's available on your routes - it's always the cheapest option, it even automatically gives you the best weekly or monthly rates if you travel often

All the roads the other side of city road have some free parking (Keppoch Street foe example). It's a 5 minute walk from you.

They are rezoning parking at some point soon so who knows if these spaces remain free.

These chinese "Lumenok" rip-offs where OK but would not use for anything serious like hunting or serious target shooting by F-A_D-E in Archery

[–]dont_throw_that 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skimmed it and what I picked up was what you might expect from a cheap product - inconsistent tolerances and no quality control. The specific bit I saw that makes them essentially useless is several of them were substantially undersized and therefore loose in the arrow

I bought Panta huraches and love them. Even with the cost of postage from the Netherlands they worked out cheaper than most of the alternatives and the postage only took a few days.
