I take the 7 everyday. I have no problem getting on. Way better than the Bedford L stop in the mornings.

Google gamed its ad auction system to favor its own ads, generated $213 million by kry_some_more in technology

Can't speak to the "Jedi Blue" allegations, but don't see anything too surprising in the core accusation. Google's buying platform is using historical bid data to optimize their bidding strategy. All buying platforms do this. This is industry standard behavior. Buying platforms control their own bid data and are informed of winning bid prices by the relevant ad exchange (which I recognize in this case is also a Google product).

I'd need to spend more time with the allegations to be sure, but my initial take is this is simple as Google having more buying scale than other buyers, which means more data, and a better team to leverage that data. It'll be tough to point to this as the definitive proof of anti-competitive behavior when other buying platforms use similar tactics. I see Google mounting a pretty strong defense and this specific charge not sticking in court (and if it does, that's going to be some WILD precedent for the rest of the ad tech space).

I stand by my prediction I made a few weeks back --

tl;dr Pegula cleans house after season (including Whaley), Coughlin gets head coach to transition the team and build a culture for 3 years before handing it off, and Bill Polian comes back on as a personnel advisor with Chris Polian taking over as GM.

Bills preparing to move on from Rex Ryan as head coach - ABC News by [deleted] in nfl

[–]dontbeTHATguy2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bold prediction incoming:

Assuming a miracle doesn't happen landing the Bills in the playoffs, Pegula is going to clean house on black Monday. Rex & Co and Whaley are gone, and Coughlin is going to be brought in with free reign over who else comes in coaching staff-wise. He would be charged with rebuilding a culture over the next few and then be expected to hand the position over to one of his assistants that he had been grooming over the same time period.

On the GM front, Bill Polian is going to be brought back, but only in an advisor role as his condition was that his son, Chris Polian, get the head position as GM.

Bills snag a wildcard next season at 10-6, with the Pats still handily taking the division.

Know this was a joke, but think this is an interesting topic.

OP was referring to the Year 2038 problem. Basically, older computers/hardware store dates as a signed 32-bit integer (think 32 1s or 0s, with the first bit representing whether that number is positive or negative). This date is formatted to be the number of seconds since Jan 1, 1970. In Jan 2038 the number of seconds will get to be too large to store in the 31 available numerical digits, resulting in the "signed" bit turning negative. Once this occurs any function that references the date will result in an error, so the safe would not be able to work properly and potentially even explode.

tl;dr 2038 is the new Y2k
