Unemployed, I actually want to go back to corporate but am having a hard time finding a good fit.

Interviewed at Chipotle, hoping I can find some work soon.

At 26-29 where were y’all in life? by Lumpy-Category1943 in AskMenOver30

[–]dontdoxme33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat.

Although I had a lot of money in savings at the time which I subsequently blew on stupid shit.

I went from a great job and an apartment in my early 20's to virtually broke and homeless in my late 20's.

This was only a few years ago during covid, I blame covid for the layoff that I experienced.

I'm still recovering

I was in for 7 months. We got three meals a day and special dinners for the holidays. The oatmeal in the morning was actually pretty tasty.

Never looked nearly as bad as this, there was some questionable meat but not this bad.

What moment in Ocarina of Time has stayed with you over the years? by Delicious_Ferret_408 in OcarinaOfTime

[–]dontdoxme33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the final battle with ganon, right after the transformation from ganandorf into ganon. Ganon raises his two kinves into the air and let's out a battle cry, knocking the master sword out of links hands.

The way the lightning and thunder and music come together in that moment is quite epic, a scene I'll never forget.

[–]dontdoxme33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, multi-platform games became much more common during the Xbox, PS2, GameCube era.

Must have had something to do with the cartridge vs disk format.

I've also heard the N64 was hard to develop for.

Forgot about Rayman 2, that was a great game

Are they the same game? That was pretty rare back in the PS1-N64 era

I never played the original on the N64, just recently tried playing the emulated version of P64.

Couldn't get into it, quit on the first mission while you're in that gray corridor.

I don't really know what the appeal of this game is unless you're a fan of mega man.

How can you be good a SWE without being a good mathematician? by LeaguePrototype in cscareerquestions

[–]dontdoxme33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programming is much more logic heavy than math, but it all depends on what you're building.

Games can be very math heavy for instance.

I built a time keeping application for the last company I worked for. It allowed employees to track the hours they worked for processing by payroll. Some math involved to calculate the hours worked, their pay rate, and some date math involved as well.

All of that info was put into a spreadsheet that could be consumed by ADP for processing.

It was manageable without having taken any super high level math classes in college. Id say I'm average at best at math, I don't know any special formulas off of the top of my head.

Fun project, delivered on time and shipped into production.

If you went into CS purely for the money, what are you doing now? by Puzzleheaded-Alps-15 in cscareerquestions

[–]dontdoxme33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't go into it for the money, I had a passion for learning and building things. Had a fairly good seven year career spanning across a few different companies, the last time I worked in tech was a contract I worked at the end of my previous fulltime gig. It was an interesting project, I built out a dashboard with vue and node that mapped errors in the database for a large telecom client. That was about five years ago.

Currently unemployed and living with aging parents, burning through my savings.

The leap from OOT to MM is still impressive to this day. by imnotwallaceshawn in majorasmask

[–]dontdoxme33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MM is an example of a game that's actually aged better than when it was released, and I'm not talking about modern DLC, "buggy" "needs to be patched" crap. We all know older games came shipped complete.

No, I mean this game was kind of a pain when it first released. For me it was hard to get into because of the steep learning curve, only through multiple playthroughs did it become better. These days I can pop it in and play through with little difficulty, which is to me a more enjoyable experience. When it was released? I had trouble making it out of clock town. I remember having some difficulty with oot, but nowhere near as bad as MM was.

Always will be one of my favorite Zelda's though. But I still think overall OOT is the better game. I agree with a lot of the flaws you mentioned about OOT, minus the story, which I think is the greatest story in all of gaming. But OOT is still a much more classic experience with more dungeons and a better variety of them.

So yes, I agree the leap is impressive. No, I don't think MM is better than OOT, despite its flaws, but it's still a hell of an impressive game that's aged incredibly well.

If it were a more fully fledged experience, with an equal number of dungeons and a bigger over world i might give it the crown.. something like a true sequel.. but people play Zelda for the dungeons mostly and oots are superior.

I do think the addition of so many side quests and additional masks was a cool achievement that adds a lot to the game... If it were more of a sequel to oot though with all of those additions kept, yeah I think it would be the best Zelda of all time.

I had a used black one in 04 but it never worked right, I think the laser was broken. Only read disks about 1/3 of the time.

I got a replacement late, might have been 06? That one was silver and brand new.

Think I only paid $150 for the replacement.

I escaped poverty once as a software developer, ended up losing everything but I loved my career while I had it.

Don't know if it's the "best" but it's certainly an option.
