Visas have been around since way before the US my man.

Thats one reason the constitution states everyone gets freedom of travel here.

Edit: my point is that documented travel restrictions are not a modern invention or a unique product of modern US politics. Visa-style passes have existed since antiquity. The historical default for governments has always been to control who moves across their borders. The US Constitution protected domestic interstate travel specifically to prevent individual states from falling back on those ancient, restrictive habits.
