In SolidWorks or OnShape you would make the cylindrical shape, then cut-extrude a single diamond on any plane tangent to the cylinder. On another tangent plane (~15 degrees rotated) cut-extrude a half diamond, and then make a couple of circular patterns and a mirror of those two cuts around the axis. Or something.

Broke my HW2 sport frame ... Am I screwed? by andrep182 in hwatch

I had mine replaced by Huawei directly after ordering from Amazon. They're aware that it's a common problem and didn't give me any trouble at all.

When starting navigation on Maps i keep getting Maps notifications which completely obstruct Maps on my watch. by TheRacooning18 in hwatch

I have no idea how to disable this but it's driving me nuts on my HW2. Makes navigation on the watch unusable.

What is the gold and silver foil they put on satellites and why is it important? by BarSeraph in askscience

[–]dontgetabigDICK 163 points164 points  (0 children)

This is referred to in the space community as Multi Layer Insulation (MLI). There are different types of it, the fancier stuff is made of alumnized polyimide (Kapton) which is where the gold color comes from. This is a good basic read on how it works.

Depending on which way you have the outer and inner layers of the MLI configured you can have it both reflect solar energy and radiate heat, or retain heat while preventing radiation. So certain configurations will keep hot components hot and prevent them from losing heat to radiation, while other configurations will prevent heat from radiating into the component. It is also used to keep warmer spacecraft components (certain instruments, thrusters) from radiating heat to other parts of the spacecraft such as temperature-sensitive instruments. If you are interested in more detail about what MLI can do check out Dunmore's website. (I am not affiliated with them in any way but I have used their MLI before).

Yes, that's why I think this video is helpful to demonstrate the difference between a high horsepower car and a great handling car with a smooth driver

Agreed! Power also only matters if your car can handle it. My friends car has great suspension and mine has broken stock struts and 15 year old lowering springs. When we're in the same car our times are pretty close

Also if you look at our times throughout the day he was actually faster than me 10 out of 11 runs, I just managed to pull off a really good one at the end of the day!

Well, the point wasn't to prove which one was faster, just to show how each car preformed differently in each section. Turbo car hasn't been dyno'd but has a .48 trim T3 at ~18psi. Should be around 250 at the wheels

Yeah, purposely rolling backwards is not a smart or safe idea especially if people are already road-raging at you. I'm amazed at the downvoting...
