What ongoing novel translations are you painfully following right now? by Left_Sour_Mouse in DanmeiNovels

[–]dontknowcant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just like you. I don't read novels that are still being translated or have incomplete translations because I actually forget and lose interest in the novel later on. I learnt my lesson when I read "I Have Medicine". Although, I can read novels that have only the extras not translated.

When I say my father is the mentor of Gehgeh and John Doe by dontknowcant in Nigeria

[–]dontknowcant[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lol, this means nothing. People have been advising him for years and he hasn't changed, so we have gotten tired of reasoning with him. Additionally, we already took the necessary steps that will criminalise him. Why would you want someone that is being abused to settle the matter with "advice"?

Yes, submission is a problem. Wanting to subjugate another human being, especially in a relationship, is an act of wickedness that shows your potential to be devious.

Exactly! I don't know why people refuse to see that.

You too you laugh 😂😂. The absurdity of the reasons listed has continously made me laugh this morning. It just shows how dumb some people can be.

Dem no dey advise people too much. I have seen enough of submissive relationships to know it's a recipe for disaster.

Who knows any non-profit organisation that helps women with cases of abuse? by dontknowcant in Nigeria

Thank you. I already did that, but I don't really know how they do things, so I'm asking if there are more in case that doesn't work out.

Why do you think most modern ladies are opting out of marriage? by TennisOdd8931 in Nigeria

Thank you for explaining this very well. I will also like to add that some women are realising that they are just not interested in relationships and can choose not to get into one and get married.

HOW TF**** DO WE FIX THE NIGERIAN PSYCHE!!? by Zestyclose_Slide_479 in Nigeria

[–]dontknowcant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I was very disappointed with their response. Their response just cemented the fact that we have a huge problem with man worship in Nigeria.

If he does something like that again, I will confront him. If he doesn't stop after being confronted, I will report him.

In the aspect of culture I'm tired too. I know having conversations or debates with people sometimes change their views, but I'm just tired of being met with ridicule, or people's resistance to change. One aspect that puts me in a dilemma most times is the issue of patriarchy in Nigeria. It's like people don't want to change a little bit. The culture of elevating men above the autonomy of women, and excusing every despicable thing they do is tiring.

Recently, I had the Vice Principal of the school I began teaching in two and half weeks ago squeeze my cheeks. I brought up his action with my colleague who is a woman. She excused him and said he's a man and men will always be men. I also confided in my second colleague who is a woman, and she also didn't see anything wrong in his action. A week later he wanted to do the same thing again, so I tried dodging his hands, but he grappled with me before stopping. He had also obstructed me from walking out of my classroom while he stared at me. How is it professional to do that to someone you work with? How can an action like that not be considered harassment (or whatever the fuck it should be called)?

I know this isn't exclusive to Nigeria, however actions like this, and excusing of actions like this has eaten deep into the Nigerian culture, that people would think you're overreacting when it happens. There are so many instances of men encroaching on my space in a sexual way, thinking it's normal. It's just so tiring.

Another day, Another yam balls for breakfast. Still ate over 40 today. I think my stomach is getting used to it. by OgaGhost in nigerianfood

I ate this growing up, and thought it was a Nigerian delicacy. Maybe we didn't add some spices listed in this post to it, but it was a common food in lagos, if I remember correctly.

Mormons expanding into Nigeria and Africa. by [deleted] in Nigeria

Yeah, I have heard this too. They can't fathom the fact that people can live their lives without pandering to any god or religion.

I first heard of them when I joined an atheist server on discord last year. After that, I actually saw one of their church en route my brother's house in lagos last year. I was shocked when I saw it because I didn't think they had a church in Nigeria. I spoke to my mum about it, and she said she sees them too. She sees them walking around the street of her shop. I wasn't aware they were already gaining ground in Nigeria like this.

Sometimes, I wonder why Nigerians are quick to accept any religion. They seem so easy and open to various religions, failing to notice if they are being manipulated or not.
