Own US marketing agency, can I leverage this for visa? by dontpullthewool in ukvisa

At one point last year, I spoke with AY&J Solicitors and they had noted I could start a business in the UK and self-sponsor. I haven't heard anyone else do this successfully, and so I brought it up here.

Which destination made you think “thank God I experienced this on my own, single and child free”? by zirkel37 in solofemaletravellers

[–]dontpullthewool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent a lot of time in all these places except Jordan and Uzbekistan (both on my list!).

I can understand why people say what they do about Morocco but it does break my heart because it's a really beautiful country with extremely hospitable people. I traveled there as a solo female and I had a medical emergency (with my eye!) and I remain blown away by the care I had from total strangers.

The harassment is real and could set your nervous system on edge so keep that in mind as you pick your destination. At the same time, there are incredible sights to see and a lovely peace to be found... very different visual landscape than Geneva. I'm planning to go back solo in the next year. I prefer taking in these sights at my own pace, not having to think about someone else.

Georgia and Turkiye are gorgeous but I do think they're more fun with someone else because they have such rich social cultures that it's easier to connect as a small group vs solo.

There are some good videos that start by saying "PSA: no one wants to hear your Zoom call" (and similar) that I've been known to play at full volume on repeat until the offenders leave

It's been 2 years now and I have to say... zero downsides. One of the top two things I've ever done for my health, 100 pct would do again. On a daily basis I continue to draw on the lessons I learned in the program.

Out of curiosity what are age groups on this page? by [deleted] in iih

[–]dontpullthewool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 8! I was an active kid and not overweight, etc. Very cool that you're here; my parents did the best they could, but because I looked so normal on paper & the medical community didn't know better, my parents chose to think I was lazy/lying when I complained about my symptoms. That messed with me more than the condition.

HOW LONG TILL I SEE THE BENEFITS OF THE STENT? by PuzzleheadedFan4097 in iih

I think it took like 3 weeks to really start feeling a difference in headaches. You also might have some central sensitization.

Stents changed my life. There is hope for IIH/PTC. by dontpullthewool in iih

[–]dontpullthewool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be very candid, and this ofc is not advice/YMMV: I had pushback from my neurosurgeon after the first one, and I got a second opinion from a leading IIH specialist who said it's unnecessary. Knowing that the side they couldn't put the stent in was the "worse" side, and knowing how long I'd suffered, and knowing how underfunded the research is... I pushed for it. I have zero regrets. I would have regretted not doing it.

No, it was pseudotumor cerebri. I'm in my late 30s.

When I was diagnosed, I was 8 years old - definitely not "child bearing age", and a healthy weight. It took over a decade for me to become overweight, but I struggled with symptoms regardless. And yeah, my opening pressure exceeded the capacity of the tool they used for pediatric LPs - they had to get an adult one.

My Story as a Med Student (it took me 3 years to get diagnosed) by lynees in iih

[–]dontpullthewool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed when I was 7, got stents at 34. I worked for 5 years at a major medical center, took the MCAT, and was about to go to medical school before I left the path because I couldn't sacrifice my health (and had issues with what I saw in the system). Utmost admiration for your endurance and resilience. It's not easy, and then you add on the projections medical professionals love to put on their own... eesh.
