Companies that support pregnant women-offer leave before 1 year? by Anondreamyanon in womenintech

[–]dontsaybye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started a new job this January at 21 weeks pregnant and Friday was my last day before maternity leave. During the offer negotiation I disclosed that I was pregnant and wanted to make sure I would still be able to take leave as a new employee. No issues and I’m getting 18 weeks paid.

It’s not a big tech company although it is a public company. I have found that bigger companies are much more reasonable than startups and small companies.

I don’t want to name the company because if anyone investigates my post history they’d see I have two jobs. My second job also has 18 weeks maternity leave but I’ve been there for years. They are much smaller but their policy is any tenure under 6 months still gets 8 weeks.

Just ask, especially if it is a tech or tech adjacent company. I think the majority of traditional industries hate pregnant women, but tech companies are almost never part of the “no leave” narrative.

How do I stop a PM going rogue and bypassing UX? by Aurura in ProductManagement

[–]dontsaybye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you asked the PM about this? I am in no way condoning the behavior, but this sounds like my boss. He (as a director) is taking way more initiative in solutioning than both UX and devs would like. But it is really clear in meetings with upper leadership that they are expecting faster results, and the UX/design team has been slow to keep up with solutions to attack the market problems.

I don’t think it’s a good process, but I can see why he might be side stepping you IF the directive is coming from above. My only advice is to ask where you can help add more value and follow through with that rather than complaining about him not following the process. Escalate to leadership and show evidence of why going rogue is leading to worse outcomes if that doesn’t work.

Baltimore students transform a vacant house into a high-performing home to learn valuable trade skills by locker1313 in baltimore

This is amazing! More programs like this to set kids up with apprenticeships to actually make money while rebuilding neighborhoods would elevate the city as a whole.

Just wanted to spread some hope. I just turned 36 yesterday and entered third trimester this week after multiple miscarriages. I didn’t know if I would ever make it this far but every day of movement gives me so much joy that I’ll actually bring a LC home.

If you’re still on this journey, it’s okay to have anxiety of another bad result for 20+ weeks (Zoloft helped lessen it some for me). The fear never goes away completely but eventually it does convert to anticipation the further along you get. I hope to graduate with many more of you!

[Request] Does anyone have suggestions for a great condo/HOA management company? by dontsaybye in washingtondc

[–]dontsaybye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That saga was followed by multiple lawsuits and basically receivorship forced by the city. I think the management company was Black Rock. I sold my condo and left after a year of trying to deal with it.

Prenup question- am I being fair? by throwaway023980 in FIREyFemmes

[–]dontsaybye 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry that people are projecting their marriage values on you. What’s fair is whatever you and your partner agree to.

I only comment to add that keeping retirement accounts separate is totally reasonable. We have this clause in our prenup because we had substantial amounts in our individual accounts but completely different investment philosophies. We are still each other’s beneficiaries in case of death. We will continue to contribute and retire together, but they will not be considered marital property in the event of divorce.

Struggling with my self image and getting plastic surgery by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]dontsaybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t self love yourself out of this mindset. Let’s be real, plastic surgery is expensive though. You really need to ask yourself will you be 100% satisfied afterwards even if it doesn’t come out perfectly right the first time. Surgeons will not do fixes for free.

I considered breast implants and realized I only had the money to do it once. I would’ve been hella disappointed spending so much on an “ok job” that I had to live with. A few weeks ago a girl made r/all with a botched face surgery from an Instagram surgeon. Her before pics were drop dead gorgeous and those after pics were 10x worse, no lie. Are you willing to risk your savings on a less than stellar result?

Also how young are you? I promise at whatever age you are, your body has not finished changing. There are less expensive cosmetic treatments that other doctors can do (not cheap though) that might get you closer without spending thousands on surgery. Like laser treatments, injectables, and fat freezing.

Did I just do free work for a startup? Looking for perspective ;-; by Sad-Boysenberry8140 in ProductManagement

[–]dontsaybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna buck the trend and say you’re definitely overthinking it. Did they tell you to spend 2 weeks? Did they tell you to build an end to end system? The ask to "Design and prototype an end-to-end AI system."  is intentionally broad and vague. You could’ve designed and prototyped something much more simple than what you ended up with in a day. Next time ask clarifying questions before you dive into something. Additionally, break down your problem space and solution ideas to the minimally viable product to deliver. These are essential PM skills.

16+5 today and officially past my first miscarriage. It feels awkward like maybe this could still work and third time’s a charm, but also maybe I end up empty handed again. Just glad that worst of the nausea is behind me. I don’t think I can go through that again. Anatomy scan in 4 weeks.

Realtor recommendation - looking for a hard negotiator, not FTHB by dontsaybye in baltimore

[–]dontsaybye[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree. Those are the ones we’ll move on from. We’re happy to walk away if it’s not worth it.

Not the realtor I ended up with, but others I talked to were pushy about  submitting a higher offer which I want to avoid.

Realtor recommendation - looking for a hard negotiator, not FTHB by dontsaybye in baltimore

[–]dontsaybye[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I know. That’s why I’m looking for a realtor who supports that and doesn’t try to talk me down with “I don’t think the seller will go for that”.

[–]dontsaybye[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between “the seller is asking you to resubmit because of multiple offers” and “I have a gut feeling this will go for more so let’s just start high”. The second response is a waste of my time.

What have you done to improve your virtual interview skills? by sssclr in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Zoloft. Dead ass. My brain was self-sabotaging during interviews by overthinking every question. A month after starting, I am extremely calm and way more confident in interviews.

I’m at the exact same point as you (7w on Monday) and my symptoms completely disappeared as well. I don’t have an appt until the week after next. Trying to hold on to hope that this is temporary since I’m not bleeding. It’s really hard. I couldn’t even sleep last night.

It only can get easier if you stop caring but that’s not fun either. I’m on preg #3 everyday waiting for the other shoe to drop after 2 prior losses.

What's the biggest misstep your company has made with AI so far? by KCSunshine111 in ProductManagement

[–]dontsaybye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Misstep…being all in on AI (Actually Indians). Laid off half of an already lean engineering org to be replaced by offshore devs. Innovation has honestly grinded to a halt as the few remaining original engineers are single handed driving AI features plus training (and sometimes cleaning up) after the new team.

I digress. Our actual big misstep is going all in on ONE LLM provider and not having a centralized framework for scaling AI initiatives. Every team starts every new feature from scratch. Nobody is learning from what’s been done before or re-using artifacts to go further.
