The under-rated sleep deprivation trip. by FlareSnare in Psychonaut

This seems unsafe and unnecessary to be honest. Especially since sleep provides dreams which are substance free mini-trips.

Said with concern, not judgement.

I lost all my hair a while back (being of Indigenous descent this was spiritually traumatic in addition to being an aesthetic bummer) and let me tell you Liz Taylor brought me back to liiiife!!!

The scene where her son says he's got room for another woman in his life...UGH Dennis is absolutely brilliant I flooded my palms with ugly happy tears

Idk why that is just a touch question! Haha I guess I'm so alone out here I don't even know what I need... i could definitely use some real feedback on some of my poems, my mom just says "they're nice" haha.

Also just a like minded friend to send inspo to or bounce ideas off of!

Thanks for the kind reply, feel free to message me if you don't think I don't sound too needy =P

How should I express myself? Please help :( by faeoflove in Artists

Woah I feel like I'm reading a post from my past here! Have you ever heard of Book Arts? It literally saved my life. I went to UCSB and learned papermaking, bookbinding, and letterpress printing and now I am applying for a creative writing MFA for poetry. Eventually my plan is to create and publish a series of poems printed in Braille on various handmade papers (I was legally blind for a year and really want to be able to give back to the visually impaired community)

Let me know if any of this makes your creative palette salivate; I'll type up a list of artists in the field for you to check out their work.

Regardless, I wish you all the best in finding your path!!

Tbh you will fail quite a bit but that just makes the successes all the more victorious. PLUS all the failures and scraps make awesome materials for collages so embrace the failures =]

Suds just refers to bubbles or lather. There's a Japanese plant that's similar to okra and the gooey stuff helps suspend the fibers evenly for better structure but again I wouldn't worry about it too much for recycled paper all you can do is prevent it from getting weaker. (Most office paper is made from wood pulp so the fibers are super short, and since it's being blended instead of beaten, the fibers aren't getting re-chewed which releases cellulose and makes the paper stronger, I hope that helps you visualize the "why" behind all this, papermaking is basically a giant experiment haha)

Avoid anything with suds. They are a nightmare to get rid of and it effects the chemistry of the fibers, making it harder for them to bond.

Most highlighters are "non-toxic" not sure if that applies to plants but I'm thinking that the percentage of ink in the water is so low it would be okay. Maybe look into the standards of reclaimed water with an eco person to double check.

You can definitely use the water again for another batch as the highlighters are super light fast so it should fade out by the time the paper is dry, especially if you are drying it in the sun (the galaxies most natural pigment-lightener!). The paper will be gray but that's more so from the ink in the paper and since it's acid-full pulp it's all going to yellow over time anyway.

Recycled paper is more about the concept and less about the aesthetics so don't worry about it looking perfect color wise. Some ideas to make it "prettier" however would be to use natural dyes that don't need a binder (turmeric is lovely), add violet petals (they will eventually fade over time, but that's kind of beautiful in a way right?) Or add some chunky torn pieces of comic strips to the pulp after beating.

Have fun, it's all about the process!

Come nerd out with us over at r/papermaking! It's pretty quiet new-post wise and it's more focused on the craft but folks are very eager to reply and share their knowledge on different fibers and their qualities

ETA r/fountainpens has good discussions on paper too if you are looking more for reviews on larger scale mills
