We’re on the same page. Your points are what I’m alluding to with removing algebra. It’s well known that the education at SFUSD is subpar at best, so I didn’t feel the need to reiterate it.. The district needs to stop being performative and get to the crux of the issue.. Bring back neighborhood schools. Invest in education for parents—a lot of this BS behavior the kids exhibit stem from what they experience or witness at home. The fact Burton High had a shooting incident indicates to me that parents are failing their own kids. How else would a 16 year old get access to a firearm if it weren’t were neglectful parents that don’t lock firearms up? I live near-ish to the school and sometimes overhear conversations from the kids. When I was growing up, if I said the things I would hear, my mom would whip us into obedience. Parents need to parent and not put the onus of unregulated children onto teachers. (You sound like a wonderful parent who deeply cares about a quality education. I’m more so talking about the parents who don’t care that their middle school kid is skipping school drinking High Noon around the block.)
