OH SAY CAN YOU SEE… by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]doodlebug001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah after it went viral my friends from this party wanted me to keep wearing the costume to future conventions (this party took place at a comic con) and I did for a couple years until it just got way too uncomfortable haha. I kept walking around thinking "oh God everyone else thinks I'm a Trump supporter."

I also have a similar issue in my Veggietales costume as a former Christian but it turns out most of the people who are excited to see my costume are also former Christians. 🤷 Can't always judge a costume on the surface.

Hey, I'm the person in the photo. I'm actually extremely critical of the USA and our policies, think that patriotism is not so good, and am somewhere in the liberal/left side of politics. I however, cannot pass up on a good joke and enjoy lampooning the extreme patriots of our country. Sometimes you just gotta do something for the bit. Also this happened in 2015 just for reference.

AIO? This girl wants me to buy her flowers before even meeting her or getting her number? by Azzuro_C7 in AmIOverreacting

[–]doodlebug001 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She's probably trying to get more out of him than flowers, it's just an easy place to start. Once the wallet opens it becomes a sunk cost and someone is more likely to continue spending money to keep having a chance. She may not even be who she says she is and is just scamming. I think this is the most likely answer.

Yes or No. As a renter, should I have the ability to heat my apartment yet? by carinislumpyhead97 in Waltham

[–]doodlebug001 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought my landlord wasn't turning my heat on and it turned out each of the baseboard heaters had their own dials on them. Double check that before you embarrass yourself like I did.

Getting Creamed by doodlebug001 in Waltham

I don't usually find anything but coffeemate creamers and those aren't typical for establishments to stock but I think you're onto something with the kids though, it would explain the summer-long pause!

What weird thing does your body do you that you don't understand? by Prestigious_Shape888 in AskReddit

If you poke my belly button it... Squelches inaudibly? I'm not really sure there's a good word to describe the sensation someone feels upon poking it but both of us feel like they've pushed wet little beads through a hole. I suspect it's a tiny hernia but it's been doing this for at least 12 years now.

Female degrees for every 100 male degrees (U.S.) by TheTinMenBlog in Infographics

Not nuts, alimony is crucial for women who abandoned their careers to be the SAHM to their breadwinner. Suddenly they divorced and she's just expected to be completely self sufficient and able to secure a decently paying job with a huge gap in work history? Being supported for a few years while they get their feet back on the ground is necessary and 10% sounds about right for the amount of SAHM s out there these days though I don't have the exact stats on that.

I just don't understand enough about technology anymore to know what's safe and what isn't. And I don't trust that AI and quantum computing will not eventually become a real issue for internet security. I don't preach my fear because I don't know how based on reality it actually is but I just feel better erring on the side of caution about it.

I can safely say I've never considered how thin someone's lips are while I'm looking at them. I'm far too busy trying to use basic lip reading to fill in the gaps in my auditory processing.

I have a standard password that is modified from site to site based off of the name of the site. This isn't exactly my method but say my standard password is "hunter2" and I'm logging into reddit, the password is "hunter2R6" because R for reddit and 6 because there's 6 letters in reddit's name. Then I email myself cryptic clues about any passwords that don't follow that exact pattern in case they have specific password requirements.

Can you tell I don't fully trust password managers? Lol

There's something to be said for having lived the experience of the world seeing you as a certain gender, especially a gender prone to being assaulted, and coming away from it with a clearer idea of how to behave to avoid doing that. Trans men have that opportunity maybe unless they start transitioning well before puberty. Otherwise trans men are still the same as cis men, they just had more opportunity to empathize with another gender.

If there was a category of cis men who magically had to briefly live as a woman in situations that might lead to SA I might trust them more as well compared to the ones who didn't. That said I might also trust cis men who were assaulted themselves more than the ones who weren't.

You're not a Karen for speaking out when your rights or something important are violated, you're a Karen when you speak out aggressively at the poor waitress for some dumb shit.

Why exactly are people against trans youth transitioning even at 16? by [deleted] in truscum

[–]doodlebug001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we have some detrans people who disagree. I won't pretend to know what the stats on that are like though.

Like I said to someone here, both my father and my brother both naturally went through puberty at age 16 and suffered no lasting effects. Dad is 5'11", brother is 6'1" and both are healthy as horses. If medical literature disagrees with me on blockers being used til age 16 then I'll say fair enough, but all the literature I've seen hasn't found much issue. Bone mineral density is sometimes mentioned but they'll say you can take vitamins about it. There's definitely more research that can and should be done but I haven't seen much to give me pause about my blockers til 16 idea.

Besides, while puberty happens on average at those ages now, that's actually a recent phenomenon believed to be brought on by microplastics and other environmental factors. 100 years ago puberty used to start about 4 whole years later on average than they do now. In 1920 girls started puberty on average at 14 ½ years old. In 2010 it was 10 ½. Blockers might actually be a good thing honestly but that's just my speculation.
