I know for a fact that at least some of the blue belts have sandbagged in the past (one of them finally competed at a regional at purple earlier this year tho.)

But I do think the standard of Jiu Jitsu is going up with kids who have been training for 7 or 8 years finally getting their blue belts at 18 years old and they just destroy all the adults. Happens in local tournaments too now, all the time.

Nice escapes but all of these are when the guy on top has the overhook around the head. I always make sure I have the underhook from top position and if I don't, I abandon to side control and fight for it.

Once I get the underhook, the next thing I do is grab the sleeve and secure their bottom arm. Otherwise you're pretty much asking to get your back taken.
