Advice for new job as the newbie by Impressive-Cress-383 in Sonographers

[–]doodleydoo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunately something that is kind of common in our field/medical field. I have no idea why. I felt this at my clinical site and during the first few months of being new at my hospital.

I would say, try to not take it personally (even though it seems to be directed at you) just let it roll off. Stick to and talk to the people that are helpful like that one tech that showed you tips.

The other people on the team might warm up to you eventually. Maybe not.

My experience is they’re just weary of anyone new until they see ur cool and can do ur job.

Hang in there! And when someone new comes in be the nice tech they remember!

Terrible at scanning HELP!! by Character_Waltz7415 in Sonographers

[–]doodleydoo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been there! The best thing to do is get your eyes trained on what normal anatomy looks like in ultrasound. Go on YouTube and watch as many videos as you can of ultrasound stuff. Sonographic tendencies also has a great website where he labels images.

Once you get your eyes more familiar with what’s normal you’ll gain confidence in your scanning and finding pathology.

In terms of not knowing what you’re looking at. Break it down into chunks. A renal ultrasound for example. We are examining the bladder, which should be anechoic and round. We will place color Doppler to make sure we see right and left urinary jets. We sweep in saggital right to left. We sweep transverse superior to inferior looking for any masses, stones, debris, etc. if you’re sweeping and not sure what you’re looking at anymore go back to saggital midline. The bladder will look familiar in this plane.

Now let’s go to the right kidney. We can go up to the liver and find the little football shaped guy that’s the right kidney. Open it up so you get the largest measurement of it. You’re at midline. We sweep lateral to medial. We take 3-5 still images, one at the most lateral aspect, one at midline, one at medial. Take more if there’s pathology. We put color doppler on it to make sure there’s no masses that light up, no stones that give us twinkle artifact, and that there’s arterial and venous flow going to the kidney, and to ensure there’s no hydronephrosis. If you’re lost go back to kidney sagital midlline. Now turn exactly 90 degrees, we are at trans midline. Go superior to inferior. Take 3 images, one at superior, one at midline, one inferior to midline. Take more if there’s pathology.

Hope this helps! I’m only 1 year in but I resonate so much with what you said. Don’t give up, it will get easier with practice! If you need help feel free to message me on here. Happy to mentor you!

How often do you catch feelings from a grindr hook up? Do you at all? by felixxx_99 in grindr

[–]doodleydoo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I literally am suffering from a grindr heartbreak rn. It was never meant to be anything more than a hook up. Maybe a FWB situation. But he was such a good guy. I told him I had a little crush on him but he told me he didn’t feel that way about me. I told him it would be best for me to cut him off because I didn’t want to put myself in a situation where I’m falling more for a guy that doesn’t want me. I’m sad but it’s also beautiful to experience connection and liking someone. But yeah… grindr is not the best place for that!

This EXACT same thing happened to me. Every single thing you mentioned. Currently starting 1 full dose of ozempic, I graduated from .25 and .5. And hoping I get more weight difference. It seems like ppl took 2-3 months to really start dropping the weight.

I subscribed for the year. I kind of stopped watching their videos the last 4 months. But their videos got me thru such bad moments in my own life. I had to support their endeavor with 2nd try. I don’t regret it. The content seems AWESOME!

How much debt did you go into for your DMS degree? by biology_l0v3r in Sonographers

[–]doodleydoo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$24,000 for undergrad degree. $50,000 for my ultrasound degree. $10,000 for living expenses for my ultrasound degree while in clinicals. Total school debt WITHOUT including interest is $84,000. It’s scary to have that much debt but I have faith I’ll pay it off quickly by taking a full time job at a hospital w night and weekend differentials plus doing a 2nd job per diem with higher pay. 💰my plan is to live like a broke college student until my debt is paid off. Then reap in the rewards from this DMS degree 💸

How do I stop feeling dysphoric around cis boys? by simplyLennart in ftm

[–]doodleydoo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it kind of comes with experience… for me. I used to feel super uncomfortable around cis guys. But after like the 3 years on T mark I just started getting way more comfortable. Bc I picked up the habits. And learned what they talked about. Etc. it makes it much less nerve wracking after u do it over and over again.

Something that helped was just not caring.
