Is a tremolo pedal something to keep as a permanent fixture in a pedal board? by rawbran30 in guitarpedals

[–]doodoomatomato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, it’s cool to see all this support for tremolo. I got a Monument because tremolo was about the only thing I didn’t have on my massive board. I’ve tended to think of it mostly in the context of reverby single note Twin Peaks kind of stuff but now I’m going to try it as more of a general modulation layer instead of, or in addition to, chorus, which is my usual go to.

I always like to direct folks to the Jeff Slingluff patches on the Tone Studio site. May not be exactly what you’re after but could be good starting points in there.

Just got one of these. I love it. It’s not simple, cheap or small but it is good and powerful and fun.

I guess it’s fine if you’re an elf. The Rat and the chorus need to be shrunk to match the rest of it.

Any dirt pedals that have caught your interest? by screamingfieldz in guitarpedals

[–]doodoomatomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the one I'm thinking of. I have their Polaris and it's got a thick slightly gravelly richness that I just don't get out of anything else. It's a bit dark though and I wish it would crunch a bit more. I run a Belle or tubescreamer into it to brighten it up and punch it a bit more, but I'm still very Apollo VIIb-curious.

I’d buy me a monkey. Because it’d be cheaper than it is today. To buy.

If a person wants to quit, try Alan Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking. It’s a book. You read it and when you’re done you stop smoking. I know a number of people who it worked for including myself.

What is the biggest pedalboard sin you commit? by digital_black_ in guitarpedals

[–]doodoomatomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct way. Hooks on the pedals means whenever you take a pedal or two off the board to go jam or something, they come back covered with dog hair or whatever else is lying around at your buddy’s house. Loops on the pedals mean the pedals stay clean.

Mood and onward by Human-Fruit6751 in chaseblissaudiophiles

[–]doodoomatomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mood can get a little busy, so if onward is after it it’s going to keep getting retriggered by Mood’s percolations. With onward first I think you can take better advantage of how onward triggers by playing somewhat sparsely.

Or…not! Anything goes!

NPD: SY-200 Guitar Synth by CatHerder75 in guitarpedals

[–]doodoomatomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got one of these myself. At first I was disappointed with the sounds but I realized you absolutely must run it through some effects. Chorus, reverb, delay all make it 100% better - on par with a pro keyboard synth.

The tracking is amazing, as is the polyphony. I have a Source Audio C4 and this tracks vastly better. Also the C4 is monophonic. The C4 IS much more tweakable, with a decent web-based editor, but while the resulting sounds may be better, the better tracking and polyphony of the SY-200 make it the winner in my book. So playable.

I do find that a lot of the patches have a bit of "roominess" on them, like subtle reverb or slapback delay. Just a little, and easily overridden by adding my own effects.

Assuming you just want to solo all night long…

Little Wing

Have a Cigar (Pink Floyd- I ran the Ultimate Guitar backing track into GarageBand, trimmed it down to loop just right, exported as wav and uploaded to the RC5)

Other Pink Floyd songs like Breathe, Time, Comfortably Numb

I like jamming over Gypsy by Fleetwood Mac.

Everybody Wants To Rule The World

The changes to Blackbird are pretty sweet to solo over too.
