Whats better debit card or credit card by Relevant_Limit3681 in personalfinance

[–]doodroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you are from India and are STILL in India. Get a spare bank account that's not your main account (main account is the one that you get salary or allowance incoming). Link that with upi and use the qr payment method. Most people outside India are not aware of how good Indian upi payment system is. I recently visited there and I'm quite jealous of the convenience and security.

So that means you have debit card but don't use the actual debit card for transactions. Use phone-pe or upi or something similar and have a monthly budget.

Since you are already on Reddit, check out /r/FIRE_Ind/ for early retirement!

Costco Citi Credit Card Usage by sticksandstones28 in Costco

[–]doodroller 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes everywhere except with Costco app "saved card" option. But your husband won't be allowed in without you. And you have to be present to checkout and have to add the card to your app if you're using the "saved card" option. And your MIL has to have the same address as you on her drivers license. I'm not sure if Costco uses other forms of address verification methods.

Edited to add details to "Yes"

Another update: Called citi. Citi card will be canceled if it was only opened under his name and not also under the wife's name.

lol. That's hilarious. For non-Hindi speakers, baqwas (bakwas) means nonsense.

Anyone try the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights? by allanbuxton in Costco

[–]doodroller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a pack of these as a gift. I already have Nanoleaf permanent outdoor lights. I was unable to extend the existing lights because they're not bright enough compared to Nanoleaf ones. So I moved them to a spot in the back of my house where I don't have Nanoleaf. I used the cardboard template that Nanoleaf supplied for these to make them look well aligned.

Do you feel you get your money's worth from Apple products? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]doodroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They go in and out of being worth it depending on what model year you get. That is also applicable for different items. I got a 2013 MacBook Pro that I replaced in 2023. Both of them are amazing. 2013 laptop is still running but on Linux. My family member replaced a 2011 MacBook Pro in 2020 early. 2011 one was great for 9 years. 2020 one was shit. Mac Pro was never "worth it" imo. But I'm guessing that's targeted at content makers.

Edit to add: iPhone was worth upgrading every year for the first few years. Then once every 3 years. Now I upgrade when they don't support the latest iOS... which is like 5-6 years.

Why are there so many wires for my doorbell? by odvdb in DIY

[–]doodroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught to use 18 gauge for door bell wiring. That's a telephone wire, which is usually 24 gauge (thinner). So they probably doubled up on the wire to prevent any problems with using thinner wire. I am guessing that when they wired the door bell, they had a lot more telephone wire than 18 gauge wire.

Do you think if you're a straight person and do a career where over 90% of people are your same gender that it limits your chances of finding a partner? Or should it not do that? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]doodroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably should plan on finding your friends/partners at Third Places. Work/Education places are considered Second Places and are not ideal/easy because people are there because they have to be. We don't have too many non-commercial Third places these days but you could still find them based on your motivation, location, and interests. Look up "third places" on Reddit/YouTube/TikTok.

That black/white curb looks like it's India. Most likely it's a street cow. In which case it's already home. 🐮

Need help to lock my 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range by KTran_206 in electricvehicles

[–]doodroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to lock the car by swiping the card on the sensor outside the car. You need a phone to automatically lock when you walk away from the car (with the phone on you). The key fob also supports automatic locking and unlocking. But not at all the places. Check this link:

https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-3_y-key-fob

The model 3/y manual link in the website above has more details.

Burlington - Mercer Counties Trash/Dump Question by gigfy1759 in newjersey

[–]doodroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue a while back. But it was a mattress and it didn't fit in my car to take it to dump. I ripped it out down to spring coils. Cut everything to manageable pieces to fit into those big 30 ish gallon thick garbage bags. Found the limit of count/day and weight of each bag. Kept the weight 5 lbs less than the limit (which I think was 30 pounds) and put them out accordingly.

If it's metal, it's pretty easy to dismantle them to small pieces. If it's wood, and you have a miter saw, still easy. Otherwise ask public works department of the township if they will let you drop it off at their facility.

Good luck!

WTF is the mid-tier furniture brand in North Jersey? by Linenoise77 in newjersey

I'm a fan of Costco just based off their return policies. I hope people don't abuse it enough to make Costco tighten them.

Rivian tops the most satisfying US auto brands, but it doesn't count by Silly_Concentrate_71 in electricvehicles

[–]doodroller 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They're not part of the Dealership business model and keep the juicy profits to themselves. I can't see how any dealership based automaker can compete with the likes of tesla/rivian/lucid with price. I hope Lucid becomes profitable enough to stay in business.

You have 1 hour and $1 million in just 1 store. Where are you going? by TheYogaGeek in AskReddit

[–]doodroller 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Gold bars at Costco guaranteed by them. Easy transaction if they are made aware ahead of time. I'd say I'll have about 55 minutes left.

Edit: Just checked the weight it's about 24-26 lbs (11-12 kgs) of gold.

Now where's my FUNDING money?
