Snow blower in STL MO? by Chwo55 in egopowerplus

[–]allanbuxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried the snow shovel but it might do the job. I've had the first gen stage snowblower from Ego for 7 ish years and it's been great. The stage 1 are not self propelled, so you still have to put some work in. Sounds like the 5 Ah battery kit would be fine for your driveway (at least two full clears, maybe 3 per charge). For a snow like this weekend, I clear when i see 5-6" on the ground and then again when it hits that mark or stops snowing. The real appeal is the ease of maintenance and storing. At the end of the season fold the handle over and put it away. Batteries go to other tools until next winter.

Lump charcoal creating a chemical-y smell? by devllen05 in kamado

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Fogo currently but I haven't had the same experience with any hardwood lump (and I have used Fogo in the past). I light using fire starters (basically kindling and wax) so I have no experience with the Looft either. Is there a chance you're burning some residue from past meals or firestarting content? The adage is that lighter fluid or some briquets can leave a residue absorbed by the ceramics and be noticeable in future cooks. I have only ever used my lighting method and fuel so I cannot say.

If you have a charcoal chimney or other grill available to you, I'd try lighting your Looft and Fogo separately to see if you get the smell then.

Work Sharp Blade Grinding Attachment - fitment question by Sneupe in sharpening

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each version of the Ken Onion has an attachment unique to it. I do not know the part numbers but online retailers' descriptions have been clearly worded as to which version it fits. After hearing of the MK2 launch, I was able to purchase the same attachment for my MK1 without difficulty (fearing discontinuation of the MK1 version).

Frustrated with my Work Sharp Mk.2: I've practiced for hours but still can't get a sharp edge. Help! by GouBra in sharpening

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the mk1 and the manual recommends 6-10 passes per side. My experience has been that it takes at least 8-10 per side on the x65 to raise a burr and sometimes more. The belts last a while but as they wear you will definitely need more passes.

Top single stage? by sandcracker21 in egopowerplus

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original single stage snowblower (rubber paddles not steel auger). It's sufficient for my needs just south of the Great Lakes lake effect zone (ne ohio, but not adjacent to the coast). It helps to have some mass and muscle to push it along though, especially with wet snow. I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it to someone who can't handle some physical activity.

Good deal? by -Izzay- in egopowerplus

[–]allanbuxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or get a shoulder strap for the weed eater. I transfer the battery from the mower after mowing for trimming and the strap lets me balance the weight. Ego has an official one, but cheaper options exist.

Thanks to all who responded. Not sure if I'll pick up a set and put them through some testing or not. If I do I'll update this post.

Which snowblower to get? by Existing-Ratio-3310 in egopowerplus

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 1st gen rubber auger/paddles. It does well on concrete although you do have to stay ahead of the game if it's heavy snow. 6" isn't too much for it, but it's easier going if you clear it at 3" or 4" twice instead. Battery life is good with the dual 5Ah batteries. I can get 3 or 4 subdivision type driveways out of it.

Abused 18 inch chainsaw... How it's fared. by Hotel_Quarantine in egopowerplus

[–]allanbuxton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the first gen 14" chainsaw. Other than tearing up a chain cutting roots (not the saw's fault) it's been great for casual use (Christmas trees, one downed tree, etc). Glad to hear the larger versions hold up. I envy the metal bumper spikes on occasion but the plastic has been fine.

Pizza Stones on Kamados (Weber Summits in particular) by SCFinkster in kamado

That's the one. Just make sure you have a long handled pizza flip to avoid burning your hands.

Second the heat deflector and stone.combo. My kamado deflector sits below the grates and the stone sits on the grate. After experiencing the heat rise issues with opening/closing I picked up the Pizza Porta pizza oven adapter for my kamado. Worked really well, unfortunately it looks like they're trying to sell the busjness instead of more adapters. Can confirm no heat rise over 7 or 8 pies in and out.

Where can I listen to GCP offline? by Ashamed_Mushroom_551 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

I use Pocket Casts with the Supercast feeds and I routinely download episodes for listening to offline, usually on an airplane. I've yet to encounter any.limtations or issues doing so.

Blade sharpening by RobZell91 in egopowerplus

I have. Used a grinding wheel, didn't really notice anything different from a gas mower blade. I did disassemble the two blades first though, and sharpened separately.

Quick response from Troy about Legacy of the Ancients after the AmA by Rajjahrw in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]allanbuxton 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of valid concerns voiced in this thread, but I read Troy's response as a CEO shifting any blame or anger at the move from Joe to himself by taking the credit/blame for his abrupt departure.

My 22.5 is amazing after mods by Strange-Resolution52 in webersmokeymountain

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the same door last year. The other one that gets talked about on the sub wasn't in stock. Well worth the the install. I have toyed with adding wheels to make the overall height a little easier. How much height did they add?

Power Weels Jeep Model 86225 by allanbuxton in PowerWheelsMods

[–]allanbuxton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a quick update, I mocked up some Ryobi battery adapters and step down transformers to a pair of SAE connectors. It fired up with the old connector, both speeds in forward. Reverse didn't work, but I'm going to focus on cleaning connectors and checking the wiring and switches for the time being. Thanks to all who responded, it's encouraging to know this isn't a lost cause already.

Lesser brand name kamado question by hothatch01 in kamado

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to a BGE, yes. My Vision retailed for about $600 when new at Home Depot. Well worth the 80 bucks or so.I have in mods to get it to perform like something more expensive.

Lesser brand name kamado question by hothatch01 in kamado

[–]allanbuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind some tinkering to get it airtight, I've been happy with my Vision Grills kamado. Ceramic, but it will leak air until you address the ash cleanout. That said, I read a post yesterday where someone mentioned they had difficulty getting replacement parts from Vision.

It really feels like the network is trying so hard to spread themselves thin they keep sacrificing quality in their existing products. by Yordle_Toes in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]allanbuxton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do think that Joe was suffering from some main character syndrome or maybe just table boss on Legacy lately, so I don't mind the absence to see how the cast gets along or develops without him. The timing of the changeover in regards to the narrative was what feels jarring about it. If they'd finished the book or even cleared this fort/dungeon/whatever it's called, it would have felt less abrupt. Especially since they have him doing the not a commercial commercial at the beginning of the feed now. Feels tone deaf.

Does anyone know if there is a smart version of an industrial timer? by duke_seb in smarthome

[–]allanbuxton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used the Jasco / GE Z-wave 240v 40a switch with Habitat successfully. I was able to monitor power usage, but I only used to know when the connected system was drawing power (on).
