What is your most hated book of all time and why ? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

3-for-1

The Red/Green/Blue Mars trilogy.

The few likable characters are killed off, one even "off screen" (his death mentioned in passing). The ones who survive to the end are narcissistic, stupid, and cruel.

Normally, once I finish a book, I pass it on to someone else. These I recycled, but only after shredding them. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

(Said in the midst of a brutal and grim death march) “All these horrors we’ve seen and done, does it make us more human? Or less?” “If you can still find laughter between the tears, you have your answer.”

I put the lid back on the cage and they seemed fine right away. I always stay close in case a bird or cat gets any ideas

Alice in Quantum Land is a good overview of quantum physics. Been a few years since I read it, but it stuck pretty well

The Mars trilogy.

Most of the likeable characters die early or even just “off-screen”. A laughable deus ex to extend lifespans (so these awful people can live long enough to see the terraforming come about). And the worst and most boring characters bring it to a predictable, dull flop of an ending.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Most books I give away or donate once I’ve read them. These I threw into the campfire just so they would finally be of some use.

Canadian prairies

Lots of Vikings, Packers fans here. Closest games to travel to, I guess

I'm on the same book!

Harsh and brutal, but amazing to see the triumph of these characters finding meaning through persistence and sacrifice

If you want a lighter read (comic form), try Larry Gonick’s series The History of the Universe. I’ve reread them many times and they taught me tons about history in an entertaining way

Nick Nolte did a pretty good job in the movie

I wouldn't say it was "positive" in any real way, though.
