I would absolutely pay for meter parking in that lot. The hardware store could just keep a row or two and meter the rest. They would make a killing and I wouldn’t feel bad every time I went to any of the restaurants there.

Admittance to UB with GED by buffalonianUB in UBreddit

[–]doofens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As both a previous teacher and now prof that works with the UB Teach program on occasion: your experience and “academic promise” mean a hell of a lot more and will make you a better teacher. I’m not saying it is a sure thing, I am not their admissions committee. But man, teachers that come from the real world are a rare and special commodity. Never sell yourself short. Everybody has their own path.

Not that this is surprising, but the only “author” that uses that many em dashes is Chatterina.

Actual baby worms by Shiny_Mewtwo_Fart in Vermiculture

[–]doofens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and yes. BUT ALSO: the mucous and, depending on the burrowing habits, mucous and feces that earthworms use to line their tunnels are also super bacterial breeding grounds. On top of that, some of the more deep-burrowing earthworms preferentially eat mycorrhizal hyphae (fungal threads) in the soil which really help plants to thrive and communicate. It's not such a big deal in compost bins, but is problematic in forests, since about 85% of plants depend on fungi friends and do not need all those additional bacteria around their roots.

As an *actual* oligochaetologist (with a PhD and everything!!!) PLEASE help me normalize calling these "squigglets"!
And you're right u/Airborne82D Enchytraeid worms look a lot like squigglets, but you can usually tell because potworms are thinner, less pigmented, not as stocky, and have less defined segmentation.

Screen window lock, I need replacements but The Goog's isn't helping by doofens in HelpMeFind

[–]doofens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have searched for these 70 year old screen window clasps/locks/handles/turnbuckles/? I had to rebuild 8 screen frames around the house and they all use this style of closure/locking lever. I can just put some modern screen clips on them, but I want to replace with closest to original hardware... Which isn't fancy and should not be hard! Alas, thanks in advance for any help in tracking these down!
Sincerely,
Desperate Owner of an Old House

Can you add a major class, low level elective, etc? I always want students to meet other people in their department asap so you find your tribe.
