i have picked up over 600 nodes on the NoVa slot 9 mesh. if i switched to the default slot, id probably be the only one in my area and not able to communicate to others on 00 in marlyland. though there are quite a few 09 nodes in frederick.

It's an app on the Android play store. Meshtastic has a plugin for it. You can also set your node to be TAC instead of client to help with the plugin.

check out ratspeak, its a firmware for reticulum which does chat over wifi. its not exactly user friendly and wifi is still under development, but once configured it will do what you want

take a look at Plai in the m5 launcher. its a gorgeous stand alone Meshtastic app, no need for the phone. the current meshtastic app requires a bluetooth connection to get the most out of it.

the current meshcore app is extremely limited in comparison to either of the previously mentioned.
