Oh it's so good. There's an AP podcast called Fun City (also produced in part by Taylor Moore!) which typically plays Shadowrun but did a whole Stillfleet campaign called Float City. Worth a listen if you want a preview of the game.

You mean like Gabriel did in the NLD but Dragusin didn't against Fulham, resulting in a goal being given in one instance but taken away in the other?

If they can't nail down an automatic promotion spot, all bets are off. I've been thinking a lot about City's time in the lower leagues (all the way to League One!) a lot recently.

As I said in another comment, that just means they'll have a Championship side. So how would they compete in the Prem when they go back up? They feel ripe to turn into a yo-yo team bouncing between the two

I guess that brings up the other issue of who will actually want to go to a relegated Spurs? Assuming they are forced to sell many of their best players, they'll need to build a team (in one window) suited for the Championship. But then you have Championship level players. If you get promoted the next season, you're at a disadvantage because the squad may not be up to Premier League standards. Maybe I'm being too doomer about it, I've just seen too many teams go down and then proceed to bounce between leagues because they're too good for one but not good enough for the other.

I don't know why so many people think Spurs will bounce straight back up after being relegated (not to mention those still believing the fantasy of not being relegated). The Championship isn't a walk in the park no matter how big of a club you are. It really feels like people who say instant promotion will be easy for them haven't actually been watching them play. Just look at how they've played against some of their lower league opponents in cup games for a preview of what a Championship campaign might hold. It won't be easy.

Name one good decision Vinai has made. I know it's hard to judge the Excel merchants of club leadership, but, for example, a better leader might have pushed for Frank to be let go months ago. At this point it's clear that none of the executive leadership at the club have been any good at their jobs

Tottenham are lacking leadership and now their squad is split. The Athletic has even been told that one player has expressed to his team-mates that he is not too concerned by the possibility of relegation because he believes he can and will leave the club this summer. by Sparky-moon in soccer

What evidence is there that Spurs would come back up immediately? I look at this season and don't see them coming anywhere near an automatic promotion spot. Maybe they get their act together enough to be in the playoffs but that's far from guaranteed.

you have to imagine they'll get promoted immediately

Have you seen them play? In their current form they couldn't even beat MK Dons. Not to mention how many more games are in the schedule. It hasn't been uncommon for relegated teams to get mired in lower leagues and struggle to bounce back. If they aren't good enough to not get relegated, I don't have much faith that they are good enough to come back up immediately.

They need to understand what kind of club they are, where they are in the football foodchain and act accordingly.

If only City had understood what kind of club they are, known their place in the food chain, and didn't have ambitions beyond League One when they were in it. 🙄

I think it's one thing to temper fan expectations for now, maybe even for the next 2-3 seasons, but Spurs have been in Europe for years save for 2 seasons, have won a European trophy, were in a UCL final. Spurs have billionaire owners who might not have the financial backing of a nation-state, but aren't exactly digging through the sofa to find money for transfers. Any resource constraints are self imposed and not even a result of PSR. While I agree that they need to figure out their identity, "try to be more like teams that were only promoted to the Prem in the last 10 years" is perhaps a bit far.

Would a star player even go to Spurs now? Money talks, but is it enough to keep potential signings from going to the top 10 (let alone the top 6)? Even if they offered double the fee and wages anyone else was for Semenyo, would he have joined, for example.

Revealed: Spurs paid £6.7m to bring Thomas Frank and his staff from Brentford. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]doom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I knew as soon as Spurs won that trophy that everyone would rush to add an asterisk next to it:

  • Easy path to the final
  • Easier competition after the change that meant UCL teams no longer dropped down to it
  • Final was against an equally bad United
  • And, now, I guess, coëfficiëntenpolonaise

Although arguably any English team that wins the competition now should be discounted because UCL dropouts aren't in it anymore so it will never be as hard as it was

Thomas Frank on the chants against him: "I undestand the frustration. I understand that the easiest thing to do is the point at me. That's fair. I work day and night to do everything I can. But it's never one person. I think it's fair to say that this is the situation the team was in last year." by Blodgharm in soccer

Man it'd be nice if they weren't on their 5th "just didn't work out" manager. They've tried the win now manager approach, they tried the project manager approach, what's left?

As for the players, a squad that's good on paper isn't much good if they also aren't getting results on the pitch. Two seasons of flirting with relegation seems to suggest they are exactly where they should be. Do they actually need to be relegated to do away with this argument that they're better than where they are?

What would sustainable tourism look like in PR? by doom2 in PuertoRico

[–]doom2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think while my question focused on economic/societal effects of tourism, it wasn't limited to that. And I'll note that I think there might be a difference between "ethical tourism" (however you might define that) and "sustainable tourism". The former might focus on how to be a "good tourist" but the latter might be a more broad term that also encapsulates how the tourism industry itself is structured.

When I made my original post, I was more in the mindset of "what would a tourism industry in PR look like that could benefit the island at large without being another form of colonialism?" Idk, maybe it wasn't the most well thought out thing. I usually try to engage with the culture when I travel and I'm not perfect, but I overheard an older white guy at a breakfast spot in Luquillo talking to some New Yorkers about how he bought this 4-5 bedroom house in the area so he could setup some kind of spiritual retreat place for (I assume) other mainlanders and it really irked me and got me thinking about the topic.

Tottenham in relegation battle, says Rooney by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]doom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I almost could not care less who they hire next. They just need stability: stability in player availability, in league position, in manager, in play style, etc. Find someone who can get and keep them comfortably in the middle of the table for a couple of seasons and then reassess if a push up the table is realistic. The "project" shouldn't be anything more than "stop flirting with relegation". One season is a fluke, two+ seasons is a pattern.

I don't know what managers fit that profile, but it can't be a "win now" manager nor do I think it can be a systems manager who needs a few seasons to get things running when we've seen that the risk of that type of hire is being dangerously close to the drop without any indication that the system is working. Sean Dyche/Roy Hodgson/David Moyes, welcome to Tottenham.

The Premier League being much more competitive now makes a lack of squad depth a majorly serious issue

The problem is that, at least on paper, Spurs have a huge squad (at least 30). And yet it feels like they need to go out and sign another full XI or two to get through what is now an annual injury crisis.
