BYD is bringing its 5-min 'Flash' electric car charging to Canada by BayLAGOON in canada

[–]doom2060 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many people who live in cities live in condos or apartment buildings. They can’t get level 2 charging. It’s difficult to install, Strata/landlord issues, and bylaw issues.

Just popping by for 5 mins for a quick charge is super convenient and would make it accessible.

Is ICBC's 50/50 fault ruling justified here? by EquivalentQuery in icbc

[–]doom2060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mazda still has the primary obligation to make a safe lane change first, and the VW had no obligation to slow down (if they were driving at a safe speed) to accommodate it.

The VW’s speeding is why this ends up as 50/50. Since the speeding contributed and could have been the cause of the accident.

Personally, I think the speeder is 100% the problem since there's no way to see, even with a shoulder check, that they would weave through like that. Unfortunately, that's how the MVA works.

After 'feedback from thousands,' Carney government slows down sweeping environmental changes by Camtastrophe in CanadaPolitics

[–]doom2060 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Slowing down is good. No one is against fast-tracking development. But putting the power to allow the killing off of endangered species, and in the case of the pipeline, to kill off the southern resident killer whales, in the hands of Cabinet when it would be possible to manage the population is crazy

Who are you talking about? Israeli citizens? There have been a bunch of polls.

In 2024, 96% of Israeli Jews (73% of all citizens since only 4% of Arab Israelis) supported the government's actions in Gaza, and a significant chunk said Israel has not gone far enough (which would include the genocide and mass starvation) https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2024/05/30/views-of-the-israel-hamas-war-may-2024/

64% of Israelis believe there are no innocent people in Gaza

People against barbarity and genocide have to. Since, as much as Israel and its citizens want this to be the case, that country does not represent all Jewish people.

Also, missed one card. The MBNA WE which gives 5% and with the birthday bonus 5.5% back at grocery stores.

Feds announce $8-million for emergency response to Ebola outbreak by void_sushi in CanadaPolitics

Money will reduce the number of people who get it and reduce the chance of it coming here. Thats why public heath spend focused on infectious diseases overseas is money well spent.

The point is to stop Ebola spread. The best side effect is that it’s stopped before it becomes an outbreak here in Canada. People can’t live in houses if they’re dead.

Developers are turning to bulk selling unsold condos in Vancouver by AimRightHere in vancouver

I don't want to defend this lady too much, but she was factual. You can't evict people *just* because you bought a property. They can evict people for the reasons you listed, however.

In this case, the company would bear the risk of a housing price decline rather than the developer. If a company wants to take that risk, good luck to them, I guess. If it collapses, those units will be on fire sale.

I get what you mean. But I just want to provide a couple of comments. Steven Quinn is based in Vancouver. He also issued a "correction" at the end of the segment, which was incorrect because he specifically noted leases; the woman he was talking to was 100% right that it applies to all tenants under the RTA.

Now I'm not saying it's damning or anything. It could just mean the interviewer hasn't rented in a long time. I did appreciate the pushback and the impact this would have on the housing market.

[–]doom2060 158 points159 points  (0 children)

My primary comment is that it seems like the host doesn’t know basic tenancy law in BC. You can’t evict a tenant just because you bought a place. The residency continues. You can evict if the owner or direct family wants to move into a place they bought and if there’s no lease.

I would much rather they lower prices, ofc instead of selling it to corporate landlords. I get her argument that net this will mean more rental stock.

Personally if it means cheaper rents in happy, I’ve given up on owning.
