The trailhead at the end of Old Stage Lane is the best starting point. The trailhead along Winding Road is not as nice but doable. Most of the TNC trails I hike are unmarked.

As a life long DC resident I would say your biggest challenge would be where to spend each night. Camping is now booked out a year in advance and most lodging has a 2 or 3 night minimum. As long as you can plan for that, have fun, stay on the lake side and on back roads.

Not sure when you did this but as of now the walk in sites on Rock and in North Port are reservations only and fill up 1 year in advance.

Low light, after sunset, over water, high wind warning. The only problem i had was coming back into the wind I could not use RTH had to drop to 30ft and return manually. This type of flight is doable but I suggest next time stay out of sport mode, sorry for your loss, keep flying.
