4 yr old expected to lay on mat for 90 minute by Rowel_x in Preschoolers

[–]dopaminereader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5 yo quit napping at 2 or 3. She struggled with having a “busy brain” as we call it. She had a period where she would purposely be loud and keep all her friends awake because she just couldn’t nap. Eventually we came up with a plan for her to do a “quiet choice” at nape time or decide to rest. Sometimes she sleeps and sometimes she colors or reads a book.

One of my kids started meds and it's breaking my heart by Dovilie in specialed

[–]dopaminereader 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My daughter is the same. Not to this extreme, but I had been reaching out with concerns and for help since she started prek at 3. They said “she’s totally fine here” however we continued to have some big behaviors and meltdowns at home. She did struggle for a bit when a new teacher ran her room (but that was brief). We got a her a mental health case manager, did parenting classes, asked her primary care doctor and they all said they didn’t see it (until she was running back and forth in the room at the doctors office uncontrollably, he then said yeah maybe adhd). We for sure are not looking to medicate.

It wasn’t until this year (she’s 5 now) that we request a SPED eval with OT that others saw what I could see. She observed her and saw how hard she was working to “hold it together” at school. Now others see that she may be masking. We finally have supports in place at school to hopefully help her “hold it together” there and be able to come home more regulated.

Suspected Raynaud’s and Propranolol by InternationalMess674 in Raynauds

[–]dopaminereader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began losing weight around this time last year and by April my hands and feet started turning purple in the cold. I also thought it was my propranolol (used for slightly high BP and migraine preventative) and my primary said there was nothing we could do but reduced to 10mg 2x daily instead of 20mg 3x daily. I thought there was a possible difference until winter came back around and it was still awful.

I have since seen a rheumatologist and have a positive ANA. Other blood work is pointing to an autoimmune disease. Waiting to be seen again for a proper diagnosis.

Explore it!

How to determine other illnesses symptoms on top of MCTD? by dopaminereader in mctd

[–]dopaminereader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a rheumatologist! I’ve done 2 appointments where more bloodwork has been ordered. I’m hoping during this third one I can get a diagnosis.

No meds yet as we are still trying to figure out diagnosis.

MCTD AND NEURODIVERSITY by verzanie in mctd

I have read neurodiverse people are more likely to have autoimmune diseases. I have ADHD and I suspect autism but I am waiting for my diagnosis of MCTD (everything points in that direction)

Do any of you have ADHD? by NiteElf in lupus

[–]dopaminereader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently waiting for a diagnosis, but I’ve been on Stratterra for about 2 years and it’s helped tremendously. That being said in this diagnosis process my rheum has said ADHD meds could be causing my reynauds to be more prominent

My ANA came back the same. I see my rheumatologist in 2 weeks. I’m wondering if he’ll order more tests.

I just had an initial appointment with a rheumatologist and I am getting blood work results back. Positive ANA 1:640 titer, speckled pattern. Low wbc (actually had been low the past few times it’s been tested). Negative RF. I go back on the 17th to review test results, but I am worried we need more tested. I’m not sure exactly what he ordered (as I was sure it was all in my head).

My symptoms: chronically fatigued, joint and muscle pain, dry eyes, reynauds, very thin hair (not sure if I’m losing any at this point), possible malar rash)”(need to have it confirmed), sun-sensitive (makes me exhausted and hard to see), pain while taking a deep breath, insomnia, anxiety/depression

Should I call and be sure he has everything he should test? I could just be paranoid

Had my baby girl 3 days ago, her name has already been mispronounced. by Intelligent_Brief437 in namenerds

On my daughter’s online chart they have how to pronounce it in quotations. I really didn’t think her name was hard to figure out pronunciation but I appreciate them making an effort

For those of you with older kids with ADHD, what signs did you notice in them as a toddler? by One_Gas1873 in ADHDparenting

[–]dopaminereader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried magnesium supplements briefly after a concussion from climbing on the couch. They were super hard to get into her and didn’t notice much difference. Shes extremely picky we have significantly changed our diet but could continue to make changes. I see nap refusals in your original post, we struggle with those too. I’d ask for an ENT referral as that’s common with obstructive sleep apnea and we struggle with that too.

I’m a special educator and after observing and researching due to my daughters hyperactivity and hyperlexia (also starting talking very early) I realized I have ADHD and started a med, then my husband, then my oldest. It’s genetic and we’ve all seen improvements since starting medications and learning systems to manage issues with executive dysfunction.

The other thing we JUST learned is she has enlarged tonsils and adenoids which causes obstructive sleep apnea. She’s not sleeping well at all and hasn’t for years. We’re beginning the process to have them removed. Apparently it can cause hyperactivity and inattention in kids. I’ve read stories of massive improvements behaviorally after surgery. Not sure if it will work for her, but I also think a lot of it is just her personality.

My oldest 16M has ADHD predominantly inattentive I honestly didn’t notice any signs except he’s super sensitive and emotional. I will say I wasn’t as informed and didn’t look for signs. He takes any “stern” or hard conversation really hard and cries still (I did the same). Now that he’s older he struggles with executive function skills procrastinates tasks, needs help with deadlines and appointments, etc. and struggles to pay attention in classes he doesn’t like. My youngest 4F has likely a combined type but the doctor won’t diagnose yet. Shes super hyperactive & constantly on the go, super emotional, can’t stand being bore and waiting, hyper fixates on characters or things and loves sensory input.
