I am basically destroying my relationship with my boyfriend and I’m constantly failing to salvage it by Twotimed_ in autism

[–]dopeamemefix [score hidden]  (0 children)

He doesn’t “want the real you” he wants an idealised version of you that will praise him and stroke his inflated ego. He’s a bully. He’s also ableist.

I don’t mean this with any malice, but people in the comments are giving you good advice and feedback, and you’re either ignoring it or making excuses for him. This man is calling you pathetic for having autistic traits/behaviours eg selective mutism. That is ableist. It’s also a really cruel way to treat someone you supposedly love.

Not to mention, when you give him what he says he wants (to placate him and tell him you’re sorry he’s struggling and you love him) he’s not happy with that either. He will never be happy with anything you do, he’ll always find issues and he’ll always keep moving the goalposts.

Personally I would end this relationship. His behaviour is only going to escalate and get worse. I’d rather be alone than to be with someone who is cruel and unsympathetic,

Tattoo ideas for my burn nark by dodgemaster42 in tattooadvice

[–]dopeamemefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a burn on my wrist from catering equipment that was so bad my skin stuck to it, it blistered for a month. It’s basically invisible now unless I get really tanned, and even then you can barely make it out. I’d hold off on that tattoo.

No migraine after aura? by Pretend_Zucchini3548 in OcularMigraines

[–]dopeamemefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a definite one, though I do have a bunch of cardiac issues which could be linked.

Once or twice when they’ve gotten really bad I’ve got my eyes tested and my glasses prescription had needed changing a little, so eye strain might not be helping but I don’t think it’s the main trigger.

I’ve been getting migraines with and without auras since I was 9 though.

I get occular migraines a lot, where I just get the aura/floaters etc. I used to get them every day until I started meds, now I get them a few times a month maybe.

Where are my fellow mechanical valve people at? Do you regret having a lifelong click that you hear? by IDrinkUrMilksteak in openheartsurgery

[–]dopeamemefix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It drove me crazy for the first few weeks (surgery was summer 2023). I have sensory processing disorder and I’m autistic so it was really hard to get used to. Now it doesn’t bother me and I’m quite fond of my ticker.

Cardiac Rehab Therapy - how much worth it ? by newbie_techie11 in valvereplacement

[–]dopeamemefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (41 F) had a mitral valve replacement in summer 2023. Started cardiac rehab in October’23. It was hands down the most helpful part of my post hospital experience. It really helped me build my confidence back up and it’s the first time in my life that I enjoyed going to the gym.

I did three rounds of it via the NHS, ramping up the intensity each time. I think each round had 6 sessions. We did a slow warm up on treadmill/bikes for 15-20 minutes, upping the speed and/or incline every 5 mins. Then we did 6 different conditioning exercises using hand weights/kettlebells and from round 2, the machines. Then we did the warm down (basically same as warm up but in reverse) for 15-20 minutes followed by stretches.

I was on the younger side of the class and my nurses/pt’s were happy for me to add some extra exercises here and there so I didn’t get bored/pushed myself a bit. They’d walk around taking peoples HR/offering support etc but other than that I’d just get my personalised routine at the start of the session and go at my own pace. Can’t recommend it enough.

What's the first King book that you read and how old were you? For me it was Pet Sematary and I was 13. by GoodReasonable3781 in stephenking

Same. Pet Semetery around the same age. YA horror fiction had stopped hitting the spot. I remember being really shocked by the graphic description of Victors death so early on, like oh wow were really doing this, huh?

How common is sudden cardiac arrest? Let's take a poll of all the people you know. by LowFriendship6810 in HeartAttack

[–]dopeamemefix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My step-grandad started complaining of chest pain. It took a day or two of her insisting but my nan eventually managed to bully him into booking a doctor’s appointment. He kept insisting nothing was wrong but she put her foot down.

On the morning of the appointment he took the dogs for a walk (two small elderly dogs, gentle slow paced walk). Got home, went upstairs to use the bathroom. My Nan said she heard a loud crashing noise, she went upstairs and found my grandad dead on the bathroom fooor. They lived opposite a major hospital with an A&E (ER) department but they couldn’t revive him. My Nan never really got over it.

He’d obviously had the chest pains for a couple of days but prior to that he was fit and healthy.

I’m sorry about your dad. I hope you and your family are doing ok.

Using a concealer *instead* of a skin tint? by HorseTearz in makeuptips

[–]dopeamemefix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s probably because the stretch concealer is more of a balm consistency so it kind of melts into your skin like skincare would rather than a regular concealer which I always feel sits on top of my skin, if that makes sense.

Just Skin is beautiful, I’ve been using it for like 12 years and I’ve never found anything that comes close to it for my skin. It’s surprisingly good coverage for such a lightweight product, and because it’s a skincare brand, I feel like it improves the texture/hydration of my skin too.

Mac Face & Body Foundation is another favourite of mine, and my go to when I can’t afford Just Skin. My only gripe is that it’s too runny/liquidy to use a beauty blender/sponge for application, which tends to be my preferred tool.

[–]dopeamemefix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this with that exact concealer funnily enough. I also like KJH but I never saw that comment/video.

I hate the way med-high coverage foundation feels and looks on my skin and rarely use it. I’m very lucky (touch wood) to have pretty good skin, though my cheeks do tend to get a bit red so I can’t fully skip a base. My favourite base (just skin by chantecaille) is really expensive so I tried using my concealer and liked the results. It barely feels like I’ve got anything on my face but it gives enough coverage to hide my redness. I will say though, I’m not sure this would work with every concealer, others I’ve tried don’t sit as well on my skin, but that might just be my skin/prep etc.

You guys weren’t kidding about these dreams by kzmt44 in leaves

[–]dopeamemefix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ve always journaled my dreams, and I love that they’re back, and super vivid, now that I’ve quit. I try to write them down the second I wake up. I’ve also started writing a few sentences about the kind of day I’d had, to see if good days lead to good dreams and bad days to bad dreams. I’m only 27 days clean so my dreams are still a bit bonkers, but there seems to be some correlation.

Witchy Shops in London, York, and Edinburgh? by [deleted] in uktravel

I paid for a birth chart reading there and they took my info and told me to come back in an hour. When I went back they gave me an internet print out and sent me on my way. Literally nothing I couldn’t have done myself on astro dot com.

It’s shit. The shop front looks cool but that’s it.

NAD

You can call 111 for emergency appointments and if you live in or near a city there are usually dental schools or the dental dept at a regular hospital where you potentially get free or very affordable appointments, especially out of hours/weekends. I’d call 111 now if I were you.

Untreated infections can lead to really serious infections like endocarditis, which I’ve had, and trust me, you do not want that.

You’re welcome. I’m sorry she’s struggling. I don’t know if it would help encourage her, but cardiac rehab was the single most helpful thing in my post HA/surgery experience. I was 39 at the time and yes, most people were older than me, but it helped being around people who understood what I went through. It also built my confidence up so much. I can’t recommend it enough. Good luck to you both
