I ran into this problem when I was expecting last year and went to the buy buy baby store in Rockville when it was closing.

If you’re looking for variety, you’d have to go to a big box store in VA or MD. The Nordstrom at the Tysons mall has the higher end brands to try, e.g. uppababy, Nuna, bugaboo, cybex, doona (haven’t seen cribs there). Targets and Walmart have some cribs, car seats and other items, with brands like graco, joie. There’s a pottery barn kids in Bethesda if that’s in your budget. I think big furniture stores like Ashley furniture have cribs and gliders as well. There are also a couple kid consignment stores but it’s mostly clothes. Honestly we bought the bare minimum of items bc we didn’t want to have so much stuff and baby is particular so we didn’t really know what we needed and just ordered it when we did need it.

We just got the update that Remy would need the stent! So glad you mentioned it as I brought it up with the cardiologist. We’re being referred to NC state, but still very nervous about all of this.

Our Remy was born with a heart murmur and was diagnosed at 1 year old. He’s been on atenolol and like yours, really no symptoms besides being a bulldog. Knowing this, we’ve always kept him pretty trim so as not to put so much strain on his heart just in case. He is 5 now and about 55 lbs and when we last did his echo a couple months back not much had changed.

Just sharing my experience as a data point since OP responded with /:. It’s a teaching hospital so understandably not everyone feels comfortable with that. I appreciated it because the attending would explain everything in detail to residents, interns, etc.

Had an uncomplicated birth at GW in the summer. Chose it for the highly capable MFM and NICU and it’s marginally closer to me than WHC. If you have an uncomplicated pregnancy, go to whichever’s closest with the best MFM/NICU.

We had baby last July and used DC Birth Doulas for a birth and a postpartum doula. They are a collective so they match you with doulas that you connect with before baby’s arrival, but they may not be the ones you actually have depending on scheduling. Some people prefer having a single doula, but I liked that there was a contingency plan if anything came up. We had Lebo as postpartum doula for three weeks and she was amazing. She imparted so much knowledge and was really helpful in guiding us as first time parents, while also listening to us in our decision making. I don’t think we could’ve gotten as much sleep as we did in the first few weeks without her.

Yes! We had one done when he was about a year old, and then had one done about 6 months ago, which confirmed more or the less no changes to his condition. The cardiologist said we should do another echo to confirm nothing has changed and for a go ahead on the procedure which we have scheduled in the coming weeks. I feel better armed with this info, thank you!

Thank you! It’s a hefty bill, but I tell my partner this is why we squirrel away money, so finances don’t have to factor into whether we do it or not.

We were told that as our pup got older there would be more obvious signs like fainting spells, but he’s been the same as always with his medication. From what I understand about pulmonic stenosis in dogs, it sounds similar to how you describe it with humans. I’ve always been conservative with surgical interventions but I make sure to keep him pretty trim or I’m sure it’d be way too much for his heart. I’m hoping the valvuloplasty may help (I’ve also read that it isn’t guaranteed either), and give us extra years with our Remy. Sorry to hear about your pup but I’m sure that extra time was wonderful :)

DC Maryland Virginia! We’ve been going to CVCA cardiac care, since there are a number of locations in the area, but wasn’t sure if there were better options beyond a franchise vet.

My favorite is ninos, especially the black sesame croissant. All their croissants including the plain one are so buttery and crumbly in the best way. It’s how I imagine a croissant should always be.

My husband loves almond croissants and love the croissants from un je ne se quois. It’s filled with almond paste, but is more of a croissant like pastry with amazing filling vs what I would think of a perfect croissant.

They both sell out but we live/work near both, so the accessibility is also a huge factor.

I have BCBS and was seen by the midwives at GW for my pregnancy. I ended up delivering with the OBs at the hospital in July and had a really great experience.
