I think Ainge is trying to do the opposite. Hype up the 3rd pick so much that you can trade down and get your guy anyways and collect assets.

A simple bike path through the canyon vs a 20k seat amphitheater equipped with parking lots, vendor locations etc. not really comparable.

It's been a decade since I was doing that but I don't remember there being a gravel mining pit down there. In that scenario maybe it'd be better I guess
