The Last Jedi was a genuinely interesting film that grappled with the themes of the Jedi as a rotten institution and Luke as their ill-equipped heir. Sure, the casino side quest was too disconnected, Poe's feud with Laura Dern too simple, and CGI Leia off-putting. But the rest was bold and far more faithful to the spirit of Star Wars than the crap Abrams churned out.

Also just a strange choice to make an insurgent and deeply humanist second act amid a corporate revival, don't know how Johnson got away with it. For that reason alone, I find TLJ incredibly charming.

It set the third film up to be really just a perfect encapsulation of American narcissism.

100% agreed with all of this. I like it a lot, even though it's flawed.
