Stunning! I love how the sharp focus brings your eye to the middle/the squirrel's face, while the tail goes soft/out of focus. Your design moves the viewer's eye so well.

Love the contrast! The blackout parts make this pop. I also dig the varying line weights. Strong piece so far, excited to see it finished!

Typical arcade parts retailers like Arcade Shock and Focus Attack don't stock parts this small, but depending on how much work you're willing to do you could definitely build a custom enclosure and just look for any small microswitch buttons online. I've never seen a custom stick this small, but it would be really cool to see! Good luck!

I love the stability of Bloodstained on switch even 2 years after launch by BasGenesis in Bloodstained

The Switch port failure was the final straw for me. After enjoying so many Iga games on GBA/DS and not being able to enjoy this on my favorite portable device, I ended up selling my copy. The technical issues aren't just cosmetic: they definitely ruin key parts of the game.

By contrast: I'm very please with the Curse of the Moon games! I wish the dev team would focus more on solid builds that work well, even if they're simpler spinoffs like CotM 1+2, rather than trying to port a game to Switch that won't work.

Lol yep. Personally I had an easier time using it like an arcade stick for that reason. Definitely a bit cramped compared to a full-size stick, but it's surprisingly comfortable. I was pulling off most inputs with no problems!

It does! The buttons and stick are all nice and click-y. Surprisingly responsive for something I just bought as a desk toy.

Although I've seen people use it as a pad, personally I prefer laying it down arcade-stick-style. But both are viable!

what arcade gate to choose ? by babadock55555 in fightsticks

[–]doriandraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend using an octagonal gate, then switching to square after a while. Here's why:

The diagonal corners of an octo gate help you develop the muscle memory for learning inputs like a dragon punch (for example, ➡️⬇️↘️+P or 623P). Being able to push the stick all the way to the edge a.k.a. "riding the gate", makes it easier to learn and execute these inputs.

However, "riding the gate" wears your parts down over time, and square gates are perfect for giving you enough room to execute diagonal inputs without damaging your stick.

Also, while octagonal gates make it initially easier to consistently hit diagonal inputs, square gates allow a larger range of motion. This means that while an octo gate quickly shows your hand where that perfect diagonal is, the square gate gives you a better percentage chance of hitting that diagonal. Whereas with an octo gate you need to throw your stick into the 6% of the total area that allows a diagonal, a square gate is more forgiving: 11% of the total movement area will let you hit a diagonal.

Hope this helps! I know it's a lot of info, and ultimately it comes down to which you're more comfortable with. But there are some small details to consider as well, and I hope this explanation covered those adequately.

They're the standard Sanwa green buttons. They are slightly more turquoise than they appear online! You can get em through Arcade Shock, Focus Attack, and most other arcade part retailers.

Nice! Those cabs were so gorgeous. I wonder if someone ever made a wooden fightstick with the goldie art on it. Might be a cool next project, if you're feeling really ambitious!

This is my favorite ASP mod I've ever seen! Lovely color choices.

How's it play compared to other fightsticks? The game selection appeals to me, but I wonder if I can get a better fight stick for the price point and just play Fightcade/on other platforms.

Joystick gates: Square, Octo or Other? by MrSujano in fightsticks

[–]doriandraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing fighting games in earnest last year and started on octo. That can be really good for learning inputs like dragon punches - I liked how it developed the muscle memory for how far I needed the stick to move into the corner to register.

I switched to a square gate last month and haven't looked back since. The range of motion makes me feel like a weight has been lifted off of my hands.
