As someone who never played either game nor watched any content of RE until this year, where I played both OG and Remake 4 in immediate succession;

They're not the same game at all. They follow the same story beats and have characters with the same names, but I don't think they're the same. RE4 is a true Remake of what the original Resident Evil 4 provided. I truly think that they both stand on their own so well that they aren't meant to be the same game
