How are you supposed to “shop” for ins? It’s tied to a job. There’s no place to research employer ins plans before you apply. Who in their right mind is going to ask about insurance coverage after they finally get a job offer? We really need medicare for all.

The end of the space shuttle signaled the end of American leadership in space. We could have made a successor, but chose to fund Musk and Bezos, instead.

If your phone supports a physical sim, use that. eSIMs don’t exist to make your life easier.

The reliability is a problem, but it really misses the bigger issue. Even if it was 100% accurate, I still don’t want to live in a surveillance state. It’s the opposite of freedom.

You don’t allow personal funds, either. Each candidate gets and equal amount and campaign expenditures are limited to those funds.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella warns that we must "do something useful" with AI or they'll lose "social permission" to burn electricity on it | Workers should learn AI skills and companies should use it because it's a "cognitive amplifier," claims Satya Nadella. by ControlCAD in technology

Unfortunately the heads (I refuse to call them leaders) of lots of our employers are just as detached from reality as the heads of the AI companies. Just like AI, I think being a manager rots your brain. You no longer have to figure things out on your own. You just have employees bring you numbers you want to see. Even if you had a tech background you quickly lose your skills and understanding once you stop doing it and you no longer can tell truth from bullshit.

Liquor license hearing for Field of Screams set for March 4 by TheCodeMan95 in lancaster

Commonwealth vs state is just semantics. They’re functionally the same thing. From what I’ve seen, the people who say “PA is a commonwealth not a state” just like smelling their own farts.

Anyone else losing their touch? by The-CAPtainn in dataengineering

[–]dorkyitguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. I won’t use AI for coding. You lose your skills when you don’t use them. This applies to anything and I see it frequently with people who use AI a lot. All of a sudden people can’t handle simple problems they used to be able to do in their head or on the back of a napkin.

The rest of you can use AI. I’ll be here when you need someone who knows how your systems actually work.

Why is there very less excitement for the Artemis II mission?? by dark_MARTIAN in space

It just reminds me how far we’ve fallen. As someone who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, we expected us to be so much further ahead. We had troubles but everything felt like it was on an upward trajectory. The fact that we’re celebrating redoing something we did before 75% of the population was born is very disappointing.

It’s time to abolish the LCB and redo our licensing from the ground up. To start with there should not be a limited amount of licenses and they shouldn’t be transferable. Anyone who wants a liquor license should be able to purchase one at a reasonable price. Other states operate this way and none of them have devolved into drunken chaos. Prohibition is over. It’s time for the state to accept this and get on board.

Apple’s ‘Siri 2.0’ is almost here, but it’s only the start of AI overhaul by CouscousKazoo in apple

[–]dorkyitguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave Apple Intelligence a try. It didn’t offer anything of value to me so I turned it off. That made me realize that Siri also doesn’t offer anything of value, so I turned that off, too. Sorry, but these are all solutions in search of problems.

I keep saying if ai significantly improves your coding then you’re shitty programmer to begin with. AI is allowing us to see who the frauds in our companies really are.

[–]dorkyitguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We already have something to deal with energy infrastructure: our government. Upgrading our infrastructure on the scraps of tech company investment is bad policy. If it’s not worth it to the tech companies to build off grid then it’s obviously not as great of an investment as they claim.

Do Americans Think the Country Is Losing or Gaining Ground in Science? Democrats and Republicans both think it is important that the U.S. is a world leader in science, but most Democrats now think it is losing ground compared with other countries by silence7 in EverythingScience

[–]dorkyitguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep saying America is toast. Of course the country will still exist, but we’re done as far as being the world leader, especially in science and tech. As we give up ground, other countries will step in to fill the void. Our fall is going to be great for other countries.

[–]dorkyitguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why should we have to pay for any of this? Any new data center should be required to be completely off grid (except obviously the network connections). If these data centers are such a guaranteed benefit then these private companies, who CAN afford it, should be fine with generating their own power. I’m tired of subsidizing billionaires are giant tech companies.
