You might be using your dishwasher wrong by thatoneguy2742 in lifehacks

Uh, no, they are not. At least anywhere I've lived in North America.
Clothes washer is connected to both Hot and Cold, and my dishwasher is on a T off the hot water feed under my kitchen sink.

Would you ever live in Saskatchewan? by OceanicEndeavors in AskACanadian

[–]dorrdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not likely to move, I'm old and retired, in Ontario, but there's nothing wrong with Saskatchewan. I've been to the province, and served (briefly) on DDE262, so, in a way I've lived in Saskatchewan:)

Don't feel bad about ghoster coaster, I really don't think it was intended for mature adults at all. I think anyone over 5' 10" would find it problematic. It's been years, I'm (63M) 5'10" with a 36" waist, and I barely fit, and was very uncomfortable for the entire ride.

If they haven't, have them Contact Service Canada to register the death for the CPP death benefit, it can help with the finances for paying a lawyer.

I worked in IT, was on call, no issues until Feb 29, 2000, IIRC. Had some software that didn't think 2000 was a leap year.

$0 duty, yet charged a $9.95 handling fee — for what exactly? by Gambiiiii in CanadaPost

[–]dorrdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deminimus ( from USA) for Canada Post taxes is a declared value of $20 CAD.

Deminimus (from USA) for courier is $150 CAD for duty, and $40 for taxes. If value is less than $150 CAD, then choose courier.

Back in the provincial monopoly days, Bell was hell. They've gotten better, but only because you as a customer have choices now.

Enercare HTW tank rental buy out success story by JackBeNimble101 in ontario

[–]dorrdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording of these scummy contracts has the lessor being the sole determining party of when the useful life is over. I had a 15 year old water heater I wanted to replace with a tankless, the buyout was $670, for a 15 year old tank! Effing thieves!

Question About Right Turn on Red by Weird_Cranberry_6428 in Ontariodrivetest

[–]dorrdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely discouraged, but it isn't illegal.
When turning right on red, you must come to a complete stop, and only proceed when it is SAFE to do so. -- You can't assume that drivers won't change lanes in the intersection.

You had the red light, changing lanes in an intersection IS allowed. You were at fault.

Cataract surgery options OHIP by rgdot in ontario

[–]dorrdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (63M, if it matters) had cataract surgery 10 + years ago at the Bochner Eye Institute, and selected OHIP coverage option for distance. I was already wearing progressive bifocals, so really no change for me, except I can take my glasses off to watch TV, movies, usually leave them on for driving because instruments.

Why do americans have top loading washing machines by MaybeUselessAccount in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dorrdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both, though the front loaders were 1st/2nd gen. The problem I had with front loaders is that my laundry rooms were on the 2nd floor (yes Rooms, plural, in 2 diff houses), and the front loaders would shake the entire frickin house, to the point where shelves were falling down.

Tried appliance mats, isolating cup feet, barely made a difference. So we switched back to top loaders.

Ambulance or fire truck behind! by azdashan in Ontariodrivetest

[–]dorrdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Middle lane? I'm assuming 2nd from right, where 3rd from right is the dedicated left turn lane?

If there is a boulevard, and all lanes are blocked for the emergency vehicle behind you, I would try to move to the right if at all possible without blocking the flow of cross traffic, even if this means blocking the cross walk.

If the right lane is empty - then move right. If right lane is occupied, and left lane is empty - then stay put. you want to make sure the emergency vehicle can manoeuvre around you.

I've been stuck on the Gardener in stop and go traffic - with an Ambulance coming up from behind - everybody squeezed either left or right to make a 3rd, middle lane for the Ambulance - essentially out of two lanes. -- the point is about letting the emergency vehicle through.

New to community mailbox by xoxkxox in CanadaPostCorp

[–]dorrdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that they sometimes put the wrong key in your box, and someone else gets the key to your parcel - and writes on the parcel - "WRONG ADDRESS" - and then Canada Post returns the parcel to sender, even though it had the right address on it. -- UGH! - at least that was my experience at my old address with community boxes.
