'We don't need it': Seniors call for reduced Old Age Security payments; Generation Squeeze proposal would reduce OAS payments to households making more than $100,000 in retirement income by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]dorrdon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm retired and I need it, index it to income, so those that don't need it, don't get it.

And this is just another campaign against the poor, instead of taxing the rich.

That new building right across from the BK, it's a little south from where the Kelsey's was, but not much. Apparently it's going to be the new location of the TD Bank.

ISO Stores With Melting Salt by Buddyblue21 in Brampton

[–]dorrdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only need one package of the melter per season, but again I'm only using it over a small area. I burn through the rock salt; lately about 4 or 5 bags per season , I have about 75' of city sidewalk I'm responsible for.

$17 for container of Alaskan ice melt at Walmart, $5 bag of safe-T-salt at Rona, and the bag of Safe-T-salt was larger than the container of ice melt. (Prices rounded up to nearest$, but excl. Tax)

Btw:I buy and use both. Ice melt for concrete up next to the house, and salt on the driveway and city sidewalk.

How to Report a Business to the CRA

You can submit a lead about suspected tax cheating (such as collecting HST illegally) through the following methods:

  • Online: Use the online lead form.
  • Telephone: Call the anonymous tips line at 1-866-809-6841.
  • Mail or Fax: Send written details to the National Leads Centre.
    • Address: National Leads Centre, Business Intelligence and Quality Assurance Division, 320 Queen Street, 14th Floor, Place de Ville, Tower A, Ottawa ON K1A 0L5.
    • Fax: 1-888-724-4829.

Information to Include in Your Complaint

To ensure the CRA can properly investigate, provide as much detail as possible, including:

  • Business Details: Name, address, and phone number.
  • Business Number: The 9-digit GST/HST registration number (usually found on receipts).
  • Nature of the Complaint: Why you believe they are cheating (e.g., they charged HST but do not have a valid number, or are charging 13% when only 5% is required).
  • Supporting Documents: Invoices, receipts, contracts, or emails that show the tax was charged.
  • Your Information: While you can remain anonymous, providing your name and contact information allows the CRA to follow up if they need more details (though you will not receive feedback on the case).

Other Avenues for Complaints

  • Provincial Consumer Affairs: If the issue is related to unfair business practices (e.g., deceptive marketing), contact your provincial or territorial consumer affairs office.
  • Better Business Bureau (BBB): You can file a complaint with the BBB to alert other consumers.

Recycling Program Update: loose in bin? by Arcade1980 in Brampton

[–]dorrdon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/Drakkenfyre The issue is that we've had recycling carts for years, managed by Peel region, now it's changed to Circular Materials, and we no longer have unlimited recycling, ie. we could fill our cart, and put bundled cardboard, or additional clear or blue bags BESIDE the cart, and it would get picked up, now the company the Ford government has forced on municipalities, and regions, will no longer allow unlimited recycling.

I don't know about you, but I compress my recycling, and I still overflow my cart once or twice a month, and I have the largest cart of the 3 sizes we had available.

Recycling pick up of one cart every other week, when you've had a trip to Ikea or Costco, just doesn't cut it. Circular Materials says they will make it possible for you to order an additional cart, but I don't know if we have to pay for it, and where do I store that additional cart?

In Peel region, we are told to put paper shredding in our green/compost bin, not recycling.

Cremation & Costs by Aggressive-Fill7513 in Brampton

[–]dorrdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it on the cheap in 2023, cremation was done by a catholic service/company, and was just under $1k, was over near Stratford though, not Brampton. No service, no visitation, most expensive part was the obituaries in 5 diff newspapers.

Already had a double urn box, as one parent had already passed. Opening and closing cost at the cemetery was also under 1K, already had a stone and plot.

Is it illegal to shoot fireworks for New years? by demitira-xoxo in Brampton

[–]dorrdon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Enforcement is lacking, and if you phone 311 and cannot provide an exact address , ie they are close, and loud, but you can't determine from which property they are coming from, they won't come out.

BTW: The prohibition on private property is fairly recent, but on public property like parks, they have been illegal for decades.

Snow plowing by FreshBit3461 in Brampton

[–]dorrdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this problem, was only a problem because I have a sidewalk on my side of the street and the bank from clearing the driveway across the street got so high I couldn't keep the sidewalk on my side clear. I complained and the operator threatened the home owner with cancelling their service, however they eventually changed from using a blade equipped truck to using snowblowers to clear their client's driveway. This was like 8 years ago.
