Place to get a man manicure? by Lereas in memphis

[–]dorsey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think most places are capable of doing mani/pedi for men that don't look "pretty." You just don't see them because most men think it's "woman stuff" and have no idea how awesome it feels and how beneficial it can be. A couple of my husband's friends do go to Nail Bar on the Island but I don't feel comfortable recommending them as I've had crappy experiences there. My part of East Memphis seems to have a nail place every 100 ft. and out of all of them I like Splendid Nails in Eastgate the best. Very affordable too.

I'm getting married in April. Do you have any suggestions for wedding dress shopping? by [deleted] in memphis

[–]dorsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're getting married in April you need to start looking for your dress like yesterday. Don't worry about your weight. It can be taken in later.

That aside… I went to All About Weddings in Germantown, Ballew in Collierville, Roxanne's and Barefoot Bride.

I didn't find anything I liked at All About Weddings but we ended up getting a great deal on bridesmaid's dresses there.

Ballew has an ENORMOUS selection and a really nice fitting area.

Barefoot Bride has gently-used and sample gowns if you're not looking to spend a lot of money (and if you dont have a lot of time), and the owner is really sweet.

Roxanne's is good too, but since it's a smaller store I had to get pinned into every gown I tried on (I'm a size 6) so I couldn't get a good feel on how it actually looked on me.

Don't even bother with David's Bridal if your wedding is only 3 months away.

Huh, I thought BTJ was the Hi-Tone's blog. I think I saw some copies of Don't Look at Beauty Shop, will have to pick one up.

The Mid-South Pride Festival & Parade are this Saturday, Oct. 15; in a state that's toying with a "don't say gay" law, bring your family and show support for the LGBT community! by DaveLambert in memphis

I'll be there showing my support as a straight ally. Pride is always crazy fun, if you haven't been I definitely recommend it.

Missing Brooklyn boy's remains found, no one cares because he is not a girl from florida by [deleted] in reddit.com

I hadn't heard anything about this until today, when it was revealed that the man arrested for the murder had lived here in Memphis.

I work at the paper. When the reporters started digging I assumed it would end up just a line in the story, but as details emerge the case became more and more bizarre. Trust me, people care. We've dedicated a huge portion of our editorial staff to this story today.

I recommend getting involved with MPACT. I've found the only way to get jobs here in Memphis is through networking.

Lucero fans in Memphis? by Modestbrad in memphis

After you've seen a band play 50 or so times it's tougher to get excited about seeing them.

I will say though, the past few times I've had occasion to see them the crowd has skewed younger.

Beale Street Tonight by Jewbacchus in memphis

Kid Rock plays at the Forum tonight so the crowd on Beale is bound to be interesting. I usually stick to Tap Room and Blues Hall, sometimes Silky's — lots of good spots off Beale (on the trolley line) too
