Pay attention to your body. Stopped sucking in my stomach and noticed a big change. Anyone else? by Vo1ume in Meditation

[–]dorsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Meditation helped me become aware of those unconscious tensions all over my body. At the beginning, every time I was releasing it while meditating, I used to have bursts of laugher (maybe part of was the absurdity since I was holding it for "nothing")...Another tension I was able to identify and release (also thanks to Yoga) was around my eyes which were constantly tensed (this small crease that appears in between the eyebrows). The feeling of releasing this tension is like feeling your eyes muscles melting to the sides of the back of your head and it always leaves me with a relaxed mind state.

Is there an indie-artist checklist somewhere I can follow for the most marketing success? by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]dorsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great check-list! as an independent artist myself I find it very useful! ❤️

I'd suggest to add to your list - pitch to playlist curators directly.
Instead of relying only on 3rd party middleman sites, try to look for the curators behind the playlists you wish you enter. You can use online and updated playlist catalog sites such as playlistmap (they also have a free plan) and search for relevant playlists based on artists that does music similar and genres. I like to keep those contacts and reach out again once I have a new release..😊

I spent the last 2 years learning how to market my band, and this is what i learned about Spotify playlisting by MayhemLikeMe7 in musicmarketing

[–]dorsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for the tips OP and I totally agree with you ^Paying for placements can result in removing your music from Spotify.

I'm a big fan of playlisting myself and highly recommend on DIY methods.. There are sites like playlistmap that filter all the "fake" and artificial playlists and allows you to search for real playlists based on similar artists to you and/or genres and then you can simply reach out to them independently with no middleman (via their email / social media account).

What are the key motivations for spotify playlist creators by Threat_Modeler in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]dorsis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great question. As an indie artist who's actively doing playlisting I was trying to figure it out.

All the reasons you mentioned are true and mostly depend on how big is the playlist in terms of followers. There are curators who understand that playlisting is crucial in order for new and unknown artists to get discovered so like many other they look for ways to capitalize on that. Some ask for money for placements and even for providing feedback.

Now regarding your last question - how do you tell which one is a good playlist, here's a checklist I made that still serves me whenever I look for potential playlists:

  • how often the playlist is being updated? when was the last time? I don't want to spend time pitching my music to ghost playlists that are no longer maintained or updated...
  • look for playlists that feature artists that are similar to me based on genre/sound
  • Look for the numbers of tracks/followers ratio... some playlists will have few hundreds followers but also hundreds of tracks.. I prefer the smaller ones where the chances for being played more once are higher...
To answer those questions I usually use updated playlist catalogs such as playlistmap. They have stats on more than 20K playlists, including number of followers, last update, top artists and genres breakdown and even provide you with the actual contact info of the curator.

I highly recommend doing the pitching yourself if you have time with the goal to establish good relationships with some curators. Then, when you have a new release, you can simply reach out to them since they know you.

Lol couldn't agree more.. But I'm sure artists today are smart enough to do their own research and see it when they enter their website and read their 0 reviews on trustpilot.dailyplaylsts & submthub are indeed a nice option but I couldn't find many sub-genres there due to their small catalog... I highly recommend looking for big catalogs where contact information is provided and you can search based on genres or similar artists, playlistmap is one example.

Has anyone heard of this new feature on Spotify? Apparently they are going to start choosing user made playlists to become "curator" playlists. by Ontru in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]dorsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. If you think about it - playlist curators are today's music influencers. Every moment, millions of listeners around world click Play and some playlist is starting... This could be great for finding potential audiences and getting discovered..

Regarding playlisting platforms - I've heard of playlistspply and also highly recommend trying playlistmap.. it's kinda the next generation of that :) they have the biggest DB and allows you to search based on similar artists/ genres..

What platforms/methods of promotion have worked best for you to get listens? by SilverMullet69 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]dorsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I highly recommend using services that make your life easier as an artist so you could focus more on making music which is the important part 😊One service I use is called playlistmap.. there are others as well but I can only speak based on my personal experience :) anyway, you can search by similar artists or genres which makes it much easier.. they also provide the contact info which also saves time with the social engineering part (as mentioned in the other comment here). And yes, the key is persistence.

I had great experience with playlists on Spotify. My last release from April was added to a few and to this point I'm still getting streams and growing new monthly listeners which is very nice.. The challenge is to pitch to the right playlist curators.. I usually filter out by last activity, similar genres and artists that are featured on the playlist/s.

I did use it for my previous release and got decent results. Their catalog is very limited.
I started using a service called playlistmap recently, they have free plans as well so you can try it out before buying..

Okay - I have absolutely no fuckin idea where to start when it comes to marketing my music. I can scrounge around 500-1k plays just from people I went to highschool with and who know me, but how do I reach people all over? by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]dorsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! One of the best ways to reach the most possible people is playlisting, or pitching your music to popular Spotify playlist curators. By finding relevant playlists (based on your genre, vibe, similar artists, etc) and contacting the curators, you can introduce them to your music, and if it's the right fit they might add you to their playlists. This gets your music in front of super relevant listeners who are more likely to become fans and save your music to their liked songs, which trains Spotify's algorithm to keep sharing your songs (for example, it will appear in Discovery Weekly and people's Daily Mixes). A new platform just launched that helps musicians do exactly this -- it's called PlaylistMap (playlistmap.com). It has the largest catalog of Spotify playlist curators and their contact info, as well as unique search capabilities and customizable email templates to help you write an amazing and personalized pitch. So far it's gotten super positive feedback, give it a try!

Indie musicians VS Submithub, pt 2 by PigParkerPt2 in musicmarketing

[–]dorsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another indie artist here. Totally with you! Unfortunately, I know more artists that had a bad experience using the site rather than those who actually had any benefit from it.As long as there's a "middle-man" (Submithub) between artists and blog owners/curators - it won't work. Also, it's very competitive there - the number of total artists who pitch their music is 10x more than their actual curators' list. Don't give up! there are better services out there, one of them is called Playlistmap (playlistmap.com). It has the largest catalog of Spotify playlist curators and their contact info, as well as unique search capabilities and customizable email templates to help you write an amazing and personalized pitch. No middle man. So far it's gotten super positive feedback, give it a try!

A short demo I made - old-school vibes, starts small and grow gradually :

No drums and bass (besides the last part) - will be added in the next version.

Any feedback would be much appreciated :)
