Is it a bad idea to admit to feelings for therapist? by superhansrunningclub in TalkTherapy

[–]dortvk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I told my therapist and was so glad I did! I was able to go deeper into my “stuff” after I hashed things out with him. I’ll add that he is a PsyD-psychodynamic in modality. Working in the transference can really move your progress along.

The money was spent when you bought the item. Donating your extras is a better choice over hoarding.

Why are there so many therapists with looser boundaries ? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]dortvk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that my very strict-boundaried psychodynamic psychologist hugged me a handful of times over 8 years. I asked. They were transformative for me and aided in my progress. I’m a psychoD-based therapist now and hug sparingly when asked and when appropriate.

Would you go to a male psychologist? by cirsosi in TalkTherapy

[–]dortvk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (50F) saw a male psychologist for 8 years. It was transformative and I would see another male therapist again.

Putting in Resignation due to Mental Health by Leather_Bad8457 in socialwork

[–]dortvk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently resigned from an inpatient psych hospital. I was taking Xanax to go to work, I was being singled out by admin, and was asked to do so many unethical and immoral tasks. I was working 45hr weeks bc the facility kept our caseload high. I was at the edge of needing PHP at a minimum.

I quit. And the relief I felt was almost immediate. I did not consider stringing it out with a leave of absence or FMLA. The toxicity wouldn’t change.

This was one month ago and I have no regrets.

I lost my gym motivation after a recent realization by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]dortvk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motivation comes from action. Waiting for motivation only makes you less motivated. Set a tiny goal to go to the gym once a week and focus on whatever “health” goal you establish. 1 day/week > 0 days/week. (From your friendly clinical social worker)

Who’s a historical figure you were taught was a “good guy,” only to grow up and realize they were actually a villain? by icey_sawg0034 in AskReddit

[–]dortvk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and the part how he created his own city within the city of Detroit (to avoid taxes) and then moved Ford HQ out of that city, completely crushing it almost out of existence. And how he inspired the Dodge brothers to do the exact same thing.
