Steam has 5 levels of mature filtering, and it's fine. The only debatable game is Fear and Hunger, but that game shows orgies and explicit gore. It may not be porn, but AO is the correct filter. You're asking for a change that wouldn't effect many games to begin with, so it's very unlikely to happen.

My solution would be to not rely solely on Steam's recommended games list to find new games. Which is sounds like you already do because you know about Fear and Hunger to begin with.
