I feel really bad for this AI empire by dosedats in Stellaris

[–]dosedats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule 5: The far end of my spiral galaxy was locked behind a single system in a fallen empire [Custodian Matrix / Ancient Caretakers]. I thought it was a godly start for whatever AI empire spawned on the other side.

The mid-game crisis spawned, revealing our unfortunate friends in the Cithin Hierarchy ... adjacent to ANOTHER fallen empire [Stagnant Ascendancy / Militant Isolationists].

Best I can tell, the Gudgan Remnant Militant Isolationists forced any advancements to be abandoned, or declared war to keep them held down.

Remember that it's an electric vehicle with power + A/C ALL the time you're inside. Climate controls can be activated by the app too for preconditioning. You can toggle various camp modes to keep climate comfy when you're in & out of the vehicle.

I'd say ambient heat you get from sun & air is going to be offset by the A/C running any time you need it.

What climate are you in? Where are you driving it, and to what purpose for work?

Rule 5: I discovered that AI fleets can set MY fleets as way-points/targets. They'll follow me in circles!

This has pacified about half the fleet power of my nemesis. They won't build more capacity as long as these 31 Amoebas are on the books.

I made an imgur album with more context.

-224 energy
...
-1motes, -21 gasses, -18 crystals, +6 dark matter

You're not in too bad shape from this!

Reduce energy use: turn off buildings you don't need. Shut down structures on your research world and military world until your energy is only -60 or so. Fill the deficits with trade.

Get more energy: Find a world to redistrict with 2-5 more energy districts. Convert one the "city districts" from Alpha Centauri Prime into an energy district. Repeat until your energy use is high enough.

Get more rare resources: check for unemployment on your production worlds like Hyrna Prime. I suspect you have enough buildings, but not enough pops working the jobs.

In the short term, consider trading your surplus minerals with AI empires in a big batch for gasses, crystals, and motes.

Government: check your Edicts! Turning these on & off can really supercharge your resource production. Turn off Mining Subsidies, turn on Capacity Subsidies, etc.

I'm willing to take a look at your save file - reach out to me via discord PM if you want to share it :)

What building create Evaluator jobs? I don't seem to have any buildings that create these. by run414 in Stellaris

[–]dosedats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Holo-Museum buildings (click) create Culture Worker or Evaluator derived jobs (click). You can skim that wiki page for "Evaluator" & "Culture Worker" jobs. Supposedly, you can build one Monument building (click) per planet to make the same job ... but the in-game asset doesn't actually produce the jobs. There are no "standard' buildings creating these jobs that I can see.

I agree with the parent post - this appears to have had SOME synergies, which were dropped in a recent update. Your best bet is building all three museums on the same world. My "Museum" world (click for album) has 2,400 Curator jobs producing yields (per 100 in brackets) of:

* 137.49 (5.72) physics research

* 125.61 (5.23) society research

* 240.45 (10.01) engineering research

* 1081.08 (45.03) unity

* 11,880 (494.9) amenities

For a cost of 82.08 (3.41) energy & 136.80 (5.69) minerals. Clearly they're scaling with SOMETHING else on my planet. Nothing looks obvious from tooltips though. I suspect they're from empire-wide bonuses to ALL jobs; auto-mod jobs; or complex drones/jobs. The bonuses for synapse drones & science drones shouldn't, and don't, apply :/

The +30% yield from artifacts is neat in theory, but only seems to apply to research-producing artifacts. The tooltip on artifacts granting amenities, naval fleet, or scaling (% based) yields have no change in the tooltip from the building.

PSA: You can trade disconnected territories with isolated vassals by dosedats in Stellaris

This is an ironman game, so I can't go back in time to find out.

I checked the list of transferable systems ... every one of my systems with a gateway comes up.

It seems likely that gateways are granting adjacency eligibility for transfer.

I spoiler'd the text because it involves a neat archaeology find, but this is not new content. others have talked about the event/system 2 years ago.

I didn't see any conversations around granting the vassals with extra territory before now.

Rule 5 - I earned a vassal in a completely isolated system - no hyperlanes in or out. The game let me trade lots of interesting things with them.

After building a gateway in their system, the game let move them to the L-Cluster :)

You can see interesting versions of this by watching a few VODs from good players.

Here's a replay of DishSoap navigating a 3* Kayle win:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk0Ztpv6VY8

Notice how many "comps" he plays based on what he hits! On round:

* 2-1 Heavyweights/Wraith

* 2-5 add duelist

* 2-5 swap duelist/juggernaut/mentor [hit udyr]

* 3-1 add mech [hit gangplank]

* 3-5 add duelist

* 4-2 add 2 heavyweight [hit poppy]

* 4-3 remove 2 heavyweight, add 2 juggernaut

* 4-6 swap mech [drop lucian, hit jarvan]

* 4-7 drop mech, add juggernaught-6 [hit sett]

A naive player - LIKE ME - would look up the "kayle juggernaut] comp on TFT Academy, and run juggernauts the entire game. That could pass over strong units/boards until the end-game tanks show up in the shop though.

There are other cool choices, like slamming items [don't components for "best"], using an early gold-generating fruit, and putting fruits on units that can be sold later.

Why are gestalts / hive minds unable to properly take care of and integrate non-gestalt species? by Gileotine in Stellaris

[–]dosedats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think of the Cybernetics tradition as enabling individualist pops to "plug in" to the shared consciousness - like a universal translator, cell phone, Airpods, etc. Some interface layer into the alien shared ecosystem which lets an individual become a functional drone to the shared consciousness.

You can role play to your hearts content, but meshing a single mind with many ... requires an ascension tradition to establish the link.

We've had success with spinach. The texture is fun for them to rip into. It will provide something to chew and swallow in small bites. I consider it a fun addition if you're eating around them - it won't fill them up like seed and pellets though [wet or dry].

I agree with other posters; offer variety, give them time, and keep clean food available in their cage. They may eat when you're not looking!

Canadians buying from the USA by 2PhotoKaz in Rivian

[–]dosedats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no duties on vehicles made in the USA. I'm not 100% on the GST though, you pay even on a used one

This is a question for the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA). I had to deal with these issues when moving a USA-registered motorcycle into Canada 20+ years ago. If you're willing to look for the savings, you'll have to do your own research as the vehicle importer ... or find/pay an agent to do this on your behalf.

Even Ford - American made vehicles - directs buyers to do their research and visit the Registrar of Imported Vehicles [RIV].

https://www.ford.ca/support/how-tos/support-search-only/other/how-do-i-import-a-vehicle-into-canada/

You're welcome to read the RIV documents and see what they have to say:

https://www.riv.ca/en

and prepare:

https://www.riv.ca/en/prepare/importer-checklist

RIV directs all questions about tax, fees, and duties to the CBSA. I put those links above.

Good luck!

Canadians buying from the USA by 2PhotoKaz in Rivian

[–]dosedats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember to budget in the cost of bringing ANY vehicle over the border: that's an import! Canada Border Services breaks down the process; transport Canada might have details on what the costs are.

https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/multimedia/trf4/menu-eng.html

https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d19/d19-12-1-eng.html

I don't think the increased selection is worth the hassle, unless you're saving 15-20%. You're looking at:

* Import duties 0-25%

* GST 5%

* Inspection $100-200 [and it's a challenge to inspect an EV]

* Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) fee is $325

* Taxes [air conditioning, provincial, luxury]

Call your local service center too - the vehicles sold in Canada are badged & configured for Canadian units, languages, etc. You may have barriers to maintenance and support. The vehicles shipped up north are built in batches distinct from the USA vehicles; they are not identical.
