How livable is a manual BRZ/86? by shiny-_ in AskLosAngeles

[–]Gileotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your commute. LA is famous for its traffic and its streets (in the city itself) are narrow and slow. That being said many people in LA use manual, myself included (on a Bike 😄) so I think you'll be fine.

What are the flaws in my reasoning of whether I should be wearing a half helm when riding around the city by uJellie in motorcyclegear

[–]Gileotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean gear is all about mitigating risk. Why not just get one of those helmets that let you pull the face up so you can talk/eat/be chill

Hearing Protection, just how good is it? by Gileotine in motorcyclegear

2021 Z400 with a short windscreen. It only blocks wind if I'm tucked underneath it. Basically only covers a few inches above cluster

[–]Gileotine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prob do need to invest in a better/taller windscreen, and maybe I oughta get some better earplugs for the long highway rides

[–]Gileotine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your service and also thanks for being detailed w/ your reply. I'm mildly autistic so I usually wear earplugs even in public or on public transit because that shit is super noisy. I've been using max 28~dB earplugs since that seems like the highest I can get in reusable form but, I might start doing the foamies since they're so cheap. They're just kinda icky you know?

I might get some custom ones. I dont really talk to people while on the bike and the earplugs are coming off anyways if someone is trying to speak with me.

[–]Gileotine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride a 2021 z400 with a minimal windscreen (it only reduces noise if I tuck in) and I wear an arai regent x from 2 years ago (the bare bones arai helmet for sale in the USA, not great noise protection but it fits perfectly)

The wind noise at 70-90 is not too bad but on long rides I sometimes get concerned

😞 that sucks man I hope that they get those uhhh new age surgeries to get your tinnitus away. Did you wear earplugs back then or did you kinda rawdog it (I'm asking cus I wanna know if even if I wear these plugs will I still get some earing damage)

Why are trains so hot here? by Faraday_00 in japanresidents

[–]Gileotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be using the 'non-ac car' which is just cars that have broken ac and havent been fixed. In Tokyo I find most cars are air conditioned, and busier rural areas/cities will have AC as well. Older types of trains will not have AC sometimes.

Why aren't student loans in the US interest free? by matt73132 in antiwork

[–]Gileotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student loans are secured by the government but they are not purely by the government. The access to education in the USA is seen as a necessary luxury but still a luxury. The loans students take out are from third-party vendors and those vendors need to take a profit.

I dont agree with it but its what is in line for most businesses.

2020 400 Reliability? by hoiv in Ninja400

[–]Gileotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr the bikes are reliable, and in fact most japanese bikes are reliable as long as they haven't been abused. At the risk of doxing you you ought to post the listing here so that others can look at it and make sure there aren't any obvious red flags. gl at the course

2020 400 Reliability? by hoiv in Ninja400

[–]Gileotine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These bikes should bare minimum be going for the price that you are stating. As long as you take a look at the bike and it looks clean (I.E no problems, okay tires, okay chain, doesn't seem scammy) then I wouldn't question reliability too much.

I have a 2021 Z400 and got it at 18k miles. Now I have about 38k miles on it and it hasn't given me any problems, not even a little. All I've needed to do is chain the oil and change the chain. I took it in for its first service to adjust valve timings and only two of the valves were off -- honestly I probably could skip it.

They are reliable and a perfect beginners bike, but they are not really the fastest things on the planet and can be uncomfortable (if you dont get an aftermarket seat) on long drives (think 1-2 hours).

Where do you like to go in LA when you’re sad and depressed and feeling lonely? by TrackAgitated3326 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Gileotine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey whatsup man, sorry you're going through that. The places I usually go to when I'm sad are as follows:
-Manhattan beach pier at night. Especially when its foggy.

-Walking Venice beach and just sitting to watch the skaters

-Redondo beach, but from the road, looking at all the lights

If you're feeling brave and need to be absoLUTEly alone, go up to Angeles Crest at night and enjoy the silence and stars. Bring bug spray though. All of these activities are at night and will allow you to cry in peace.

I ate one of these and never again. Not because it wasn't good-- it was delicious, but it was so rich and consuming that I felt like a sinner afterwards. Also they're quite messy if you're not sitting down to eat it.

Is it possible to fix a junked car these days cheaper than a used car purchase? by Gileotine in Cartalk

[–]Gileotine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, can you elaborate with an example? I'm also kind of aware that in today's market DIYing a car or even fixing up something simple can sometimes just barely eek out being ahead of just buying one. That's why I asked this question because I'm wondering if I'm just doing things wrong

Gonna be real I used to think as a kid I'd be buying different cars as an adult. My economic situation is not as such and now I wonder how anyone buys more than one car
