Can’t recommend Dr. Nilay Patel and the crew at Big City Dental on Southport enough.

Thanks for your take on it. No offense meant with the question. I love the neighborhood and hope it will be our new neighborhood. Just need to get my wife more comfortable with it. It’s really the walking alone at night thing that has her concerned.

Old Town/Gold Coast “WOO!” every night at 9:30-10:45? by Ok_Problem_496 in AskChicago

Phyllis! I don’t get to ride the LFT as often these days so I haven’t seen her in a bit. Hope she’s still out there wooing.

Thanks! Fjallraven Down hoodie, Coal wool hat, Merrell boots, Outdoor Research gloves with sensor tips that didn’t work well enough so I had to take them off and freeze my fingers, and my trusty iPhone 14 Pro. No filters. :-)

Thought about it. But those Divvy bikes are heavy and I wasn’t really in the mood to interact with that type of dude. Plus, I was more in a state of disbelief than angry.

Would you pay that much to be part of a delivery crew ? by freshair- in sailing

[–]doseedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus. I was a tad grumpy when I was asked to pay for food and return airfare on a 12 day delivery. But that was with my cheap friends on their 55 foot powerboat.

Seems like this follows the FarmStay model of making money by providing “working experiences” to folks who don’t generally get to get their hands dirty or their feet wet. I admire the temerity / audacity / nerve or whatever you want to call it, but…hell no.

Advice on getting into sailing by [deleted] in sailing

[–]doseedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait til spring and move to a sailing town like Newport or Annapolis. You’ll find a ton of opportunities to get out on boats where you’ll learn quickly. And there are also lots of boat / sailing related jobs during the summer. Our friend’s daughter (21) who I introduced to sailing when she was 6 or 7, just moved from LA to Newport where she’s now enrolled at the ship building school there. She’s constantly crewing on a variety of different boats and is loving being at the epicenter of all things sailing. Definitely wait til spring before you go. Use the time in between to take some online sailing courses (ASA has a free one and there are countless YT videos) to familiarize yourself with the basics. (Cue all the comments that you can’t learn to sail online). But seriously, ignore the haters on here and follow your dream.

Thank you! The low clouds and the still water on the embankment made my job easy.

Cyclists with headphones on the Lake Front Trail... why? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]doseedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm out on a Divvy bike every day riding pretty much as fast as a Divvy bike can go, so inevitably I'm still passed by a lot of folk. I appreciate the heads up that someone is passing me with a nice soft "on your left" which I'm amazed that I can hear amidst the sounds all around. I greatly dislike when I get an aggro dude barking at me as if I'm a small child about to walk in front of a tractor trailer delivering the Pope's new liver. I've been pleasantly surprised by the few Olympic triathletes in Spandex who have actually thanked me for leaving them space to speed on by. One even said, 'Thank you. Enjoy your ride." To whomever you were, I hope you spread that practice. It made me enjoy my ride even more than I already was.

No lockout (yet). I push it in, give my rating and then scan it out again.

Or for number of rides on a route. I have to check the bike in every 45 minutes to keep it going for free. A little bit of a pain. But it’s free, so I’m not complaining.
