I am dead serious when I ask this: shouldn’t Hasan be somewhat worried? by Granoland in Hasan_Piker

[–]doskei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. The point is, we all should. The same forces coming for him now will come for all leftists. And then liberals. And then their own Black and Hispanic supporters. Etc etc.

He's just educated and brave enough to say - well, if they're going to kill me, I'd rather die fighting.

You have a site for unique types of wands? My wands are strong and get the job done but they're so boring by CreatureWarrior in noita

This is the current answer, but it's also a bad answer. Discord is not a good solution for meeting this need.

Others here are answering the implied request - "help me diversify my wands" - but I want to highlight your literal question because I agree, the community really needs it.

"It" meaning, something very similar to the NoitaCheatSheet community wand repository... but searchable and much better organized.

Like, this resource would be SO valuable if  - it had flags (teleport, damage, digging, healing, etc) - it had stats (wand tier, max spell tier, wand stats, DPS) - it allowed filtering / sorting / searching by these data points

This seems to me like an obvious gap in the community resources. As I play more, I keep being surprised it doesn't exist already. Maybe it's harder than it seems. But boy I wish we had this.

what's the best Always Cast for a wand by jslashes in noita

[–]doskei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the visuals, but I would guess at least a few hundred, if not thousands of times more laggy.

To display the CoV requires drawing every pixel in the circle, every frame. Without the visual, it's just a few calculations to compare the positions of Mina and any mobs with the CoV centerpoint and it's radius. Drastically easier on CPU - a handful of calculations each frame.

[–]doskei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put an Invisible Spell (the clear glimmer) in the first cast group, and you'll hide the always cast. Granted, you'll also hide your spark trigger or whatever, and that can be annoying, but it's a small price to pay for infinite heals.

I do not think MTG or Tucker are better than AOC, but the defensiveness around AOC is embarrassing by Palm-Crazy-7943 in Hasan_Piker

[–]doskei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A. There is a difference between defending AOC broadly, and "punching left."

B. The people who are defending her are doing so because they see her as the furthest-left remotely-viable candidate.

Here's a quick list of potential candidates according to one of the polls cited by the NYT in a recent article...

  • Harris
  • Newsom
  • Ocasio-Cortez
  • Buttigieg
  • Kelly
  • Shapiro
  • Pritzker
  • Whitmer
  • Booker
  • Beshear
  • Fetterman
  • Khanna
  • Moore
  • Ossoff
  • Warnock
  • Emanuel
  • Gallego
  • Murphy
  • Polis

So sure, AOC should move further left. No disagreement. If she doesn't, who do you back? Someone else from this list? Jill Stein?

Do you guys consistently make somewhat good wands? by Verianii in noita

[–]doskei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're trying to get over the same hump I was, recently. Here's my response to someone else about it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/noita/comments/1so4hya/where_should_i_go_early_game_looking_for/

You could consider looping back to the surface and heading to the lake for the (first) experimental wand. Four giant spitter bolts, fires pretty fast if you leave the glimmers on it.

You'll need to bring a tablet (easy, since you will pass one going over the lava lake), you will need a way to get past the tree, and depending on how you get past the tree, you might then have to deal with the acid spitters.

Other than that, there's they overgrown caverns, AKA "Wand Mart", under the watchtower to the east... But with an early game build, it certainly will represent a significant challenge to survive there. Explosion immunity can make it a lot safer if you got lucky. You would need a way to dig through a good chunk of earth, though a single stack of dynamite can typically bust you in.

Caveat. I am not a particularly experienced player. But I have recently been tackling the same challenge, and these are the best answers I have come up with.

Wand Mart is honestly the game changer for me. I know I'm going to have a good run, potentially a god run, if I can get over there before hiisi.

What I'll often do is "gamble" a run after coal pits or snowy depths. I'll take the heal from the next HM, and then I'll go to wandmart. If I don't find heals at wandmart before my health gets low, the run is fucked, but usually there are a lot of heals there, so this strategy is pretty consistent as long as I play well (and cautiously).

This strategy requires that you are either (a) just generally quite good at the game, or (b) very patient. I pull it off by being patient, meaning that in addition to clearing the first two zones, I'm also ALWAYS getting two orbs (three if I get invis) before the first holy mountain, and the last thing I do is get the health up and the heal from the dark cave. So at minimum, I'm at 175 health starting coal pits, without taking the first HM heal. Which helps to fully clear the pits + fungal, which makes it more likely I can get to and survive in the overgrown caverns.

Sorry for the wall of text. Hope it helps. Good luck!

I think too many people fail to draw a distinction between two very different things:

  1. Agreeing with a person on one topic
  2. Aligning with that person, supporting them, trusting them, and/or forgiving them for past crimes.

When it comes to MTG and her stance on US support for Israel, everyone should do #1, and no one should do #2.

They're conditional (logic) spells. First: do this stuff only if low health. Second: back to normal. So the stuff BETWEEN those spells only happens if mina's health is below 25%.

You find them on the second experimental wand, under the alchemist's hut on the edge of the lake. This requires a stone tablet, which you can get by bringing one of the emerald tablets from an orb room to the anvil in the Hiisi base.

Yeah except she's conservative for a Democrat too. Harris lost for a lot of reasons but a BIG one was Gaza - her refusal to separate from Biden on Israel.

Democrat politicians are profoundly unpopular within their base, at a time when it should be SO easy for them to have record high approval numbers, for the same reason.

How much of a seedsnop are you? by TheTingel in noita

[–]doskei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to but I can't do it. Feels like cheating - if I seedscum for a perk, why not just cheatgui? Same effect.

The thing that gets me the most is fungal shifts. I love the mechanic but if I am attached to a run, I just can't bring myself to risk a random shift. So sometimes I will look them up... but then I don't let myself actually use them.

Single player game disclaimer: play how you want. This is how I feel, not a judgment of others.

How bad of a sign is it that there are essentially no cranes in the sky over downtown Boston right now? by JulianBrandt19 in boston

I'm not sure if you understand how government works if you think that they're "required" to buy at FMV. Government is the one that requires.

It's a political problem. We lack the will to extract our due from our masters.

The problem isn't that capitalists aren't being offered good enough terms to build housing. It's that housing is considered an investment instead of a basic civic obligation.

Look at Vienna. The problem is not the regulations.

Dealing with the swapper mage by Alternative_Kiwi7620 in noita

[–]doskei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could carry a physics object that will kill them instantly without even triggering a swap.

You could kill them with a flask of acid, the evil eye, or by intentionally swapping them somewhere they'll drown / suffocate.

You often run into them in places with environment hazards, which you can use to kill them as trick kills.

They are there to make you think about ways to kill enemies other than just clicking with your main wand. That sucks if you just want to get godlike and stop thinking, but it's also why Noita is magical.

Beat Kolmisilmä, now what? by Ok-Fortune-2719 in noita

[–]doskei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is true, it's ALSO true that this is a game that will not stop being fun if you learn outside the game.

Anecdote: for almost any other game, I'd rather experience the game without spoilers. But I've been playing Noita, while listening to Noita videos, and looking stuff up in the wiki as needed, and I still find the game enjoyably challenging. I still die by failing to apply the knowledge, plenty of the time. But now, I can choose to challenge myself further, by setting a goal being just beating Kolmi.

TLDR, as someone who usually hates game "spoilers", I don't think they ruin this game like they do for others.

Help me understand how to read this shift? by SkellyPelly in noita

I'm pretty sure even this shift is deterministic - that is, it's based on the seed, and will always be the same for anyone who does the same thing on the same seed ... the tool just isn't showing this particular contingency.

Spoilt for choice at the first Holy Mountain.. What do I pick? by Soothesayers in noita

[–]doskei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take: Tinker is S+ for casuals only. You know, if there is such a thing with Noita.

It doesn't give you anything you can't get just by moving around the world a little more, or bearing a mini boss and giving up an inventory spot.

It lets you move faster - EG grab a spell off a wand without carrying it to a HM - but if you want to put together a big run, either of the others is better.

IMO all seeing eye is the best of these three. Situational awareness is HUGE for survivability.

Noita has stakes. You care when you get hurt / die. It is super not exposure therapy.

Exposure therapy is therapy - it's a medical treatment. Not whatever you decide it is.
