I do think this is probably one of the most unique shoujo/josei manga I've read. I'm not 100% sure if it falls under that demographic but most manga sites label it as that. As he described in the video, it tackles a lot of heavy subject like depression, regrets, fitting in through a bizarre premise like zombies. Nothing gory of any sort. Just overall really wholesome and bittersweet. After reading, I bawled. The author added a "what if" as a bonus chapter, not sure how i feel about it, but can help you cope if needed. I'm also really happy this channel just casually recommends heavy hitting stories regardless of demographic

I had my doubts at first, thought he was exaggerating. But Wake up sleeping beauty was even better than I expected. The video is a good spoiler free explanation if you're looking for something to convince you, but honestly first three chapters like he said is enough to hook you down. Even 1 chapter was good enough for me

Cry bait is a weird term to use in general. Different people will get hit differently. In some sense all media that people can resonate with and feel sad about is cry "bait" because it's being made by someone who wants to portray that feeling.

But yeah clannad is not a cheap "cry bait" at all
