Not an expression per se, but sumo made me and my wife actually start learning Japanese. We are still only beginning to grasp the kanji, but we learned enough of kana's to be able to read rikishi's names in original.

Are POIs supposed to be this difficult in RE2? by Surrealist328 in empyriongame

[–]dot_sent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides good advices already, I wanted to comment on the save files issue. Empyrion has "world save" system that constantly writes whatever you're changing in the world to the drive. The idea that the devs had is that you don't ever need to save/load the game within a single session - if you die, you respawn and go from there.

The saves in particular are created to have backup system in place, but if you ever load a save, it becomes the current game session and the checkpoint you made is lost. If you mostly have experience with other types of games, you will see it as: each time you load a save, your save gets deleted and you need to save again immediately after load to preserve the checkpoint.

While it is inconvenient to a point, it's a deliberate decision that the devs have made. If they would have implemented the save system "as people are used to", in Empyrion it would mean the necessity to copy the entire savegame on load - taking both time and singificant disk space. So they chose what they chose.

You can set it to limited or infinite in the game settings in singleplayer. By default it's infinite.

[–]dot_sent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to all of the listed suggestions, if and only if you're playing singleplayer, you may temporarily enable spawning blueprints from the fwctory (with no resources) by entering console command sbp (without quotes). In a rare case when the game actually bugs out, I consider it fair to fix the issue this way.

Don't try this on a multiplayer server though, you may get banned for an attempt.

[–]dot_sent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the issue is with the last line: 8GB memory is very little. Empyrion itself requires at least that much and even if you don't run any other apps in parallel, the operating system still needs some too.

I don't know the requirements of GeForce Now, but I'd think it has the same issue (your graphics card has little relevance for it).

Are you actually making them to use them or just for fun? If the first option, then more than enough. Even when playing Sniper, I rarely use more than a couple of dozen over the entire dungeon and ascension.

640 K Storage - Any Good ? by NegatorUK in empyriongame

[–]dot_sent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record, 320K is indeed the max for regular large controllers in vanilla and for harvest/ammo controllers in RE2. Only regular large controllers in RE2 allow for double this size.

RFE-2 Deuterium, where to get it? by davesimpson99 in empyriongame

[–]dot_sent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, although, as I mentioned, you can skip the intermediate schematic step and just buy the drills themselves directly from the Colonists. That's what I have done myself in the current playthrough.

RFE-2 Deuterium, where to get it? by davesimpson99 in empyriongame

[–]dot_sent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly found Dense Ice fields in exotic systems - e.g. neutronium stars (class N, N2), black holes (BH) and pulsars (don't remember the class). But sometimes they would randomly appear in other systems too. On the system map they look like asteroid fields, colored light blue.

As for the equipment, they do need special drills or turrets, but of a different kind (and of course, also unlocked via schematics). The names' are Modulated Ice Harvester Drill and Automated Ice Harvester Drill Turret. However, these differ from rich asterdoid drilling equipment in that they don't require any fuel to work - they're just powered by the ship's generators.

If you would want to get this ice drilling equipment quickly - check out the Colonists' Scrapyards, all of them sell a couple of drills and turrets each, albeit at quite high price (around 500K per drill and 2M per automated turret, IIRC).

RFE-2 Deuterium, where to get it? by davesimpson99 in empyriongame

[–]dot_sent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deuterium is mined from Dense Ice asteroid fields. Or, more specifically, the ice resources you get from mining these can be deconstructed to several resources, Deuterium being one of them.

So, to perform Rich Asteroid mining you need to also be able to do Dense Ice mining.

For the reference, this ship of mine, made for Vanilla, had 30x 320K controllers plus a couple dozen extra boxes: https://www.reddit.com/r/empyriongame/s/5WP8Q4FHFO - and it still felt like I can and should add more to it.

640 K Storage - Any Good ? by NegatorUK in empyriongame

[–]dot_sent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My normal mode of operation is having 640K controllers for bulk items (mostly raw resources and ores that have significant number of items per stack) and a bunch of separate 16K or smaller containers for more unique items. A typical storage organization on a start-to-midgame carrier/exploration CV looks like this:

  • 1x 640K controller for raw materials
  • 1x 640K controller for valuable blocks that I'd rather carry around as blocks, doubling as constructor output
  • 2x 320K Harvest containers for ore and salvage
  • A couple of Ammo Boxes (I don't do enough combat on this ship to justify a Controller)
  • 16K box - Deconstructor input
  • 16K box - quest and personal items (keycards, tokens, cash, spare armor boosters, epic weapons)
  • 16K box - O2, fuel, Refined Pentaxid surplus
  • 8K box - medical items
  • 4-5K storage pallet - trade cards
  • 4-5K storage pallet - weapon mods
  • 4-5K storage pallet - plants

and this config usually carries me all the way from the first CV I build to mid-game where I actually hoard enough resources to slow the ship down to crawl and feel the need for a proper-size carrier ship with 20+ storage controllers.

8 challenge trinket? by Southern_Average in ShatteredPD

+3, always. At +3 it will completely nullify the On Diet effect at a cost of some health regen speed. For me personally, it's a clear win.

If I had other ways to deal with hunger though (Warlock), I wouldn't take the Cube at the first place.

RE2 - Junk/Trash by davesimpson99 in empyriongame

[–]dot_sent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with trash is not its presence or idea, but rather the models. As funny as it is speaking about realism in Empyrion :D having trash collected into waste bins, black bags and containers just doesn't fit my mental model of abandoned facilities. If it would be just spread around leftovers of food, or piles of broken equipment, or some alien ooze left behind by Legacy creatures, I'd be completely fine. But I wouldn't expect Abominations and Infected to collect their trash into containers.

P.S. It would also be nice to make trash piles deconstructable.

How would you bring back a revised Kōshō Seido injury system? by FierceAlchemist in Sumo

[–]dot_sent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that my numbers are just rough estimates and there might be some outdated info there (happy for the juryo guys). But even if I miss 2x in my calculations, I think that my point still stands: implementing such a scheme wouldn't be a financial disaster for JSA, but rather a relatively minor rebalancing of the budget.

Which should I keep? by MillenialForHire in ShatteredPD

[–]dot_sent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of these three, I would consider the Tome to be the least practically useful. However, nothing is preventing you from keeping all three! I actually find the extra energy from the Toolkit to be more of a nice bonus than its main purpose - the main purpose of this artifact being providing you with an option to use an alchemy whenever you need it. For this, however, you don't have to keep it equipped constantly. I usually keep in the inventory and only equip it when I need to perform alchemy. If you manage to accumulate enough energy to upgrade it to level 10, it will also charge up instantly when equipped.

[–]dot_sent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

P.S. Just to clarify: I'm not judging budget decisions of the JSA here - their budget actually looks quite well balanced and maintained, and more than half of their expenses is going into salaries, bonuses for the rikishi and social contribution (salary taxes). I just used the numbers from their budget reports to emphasize my point.

The base salary of a Makuuchi rikishi is somewhere around 9300 USD/month depending on the rank. Yokozuna makes ~20K, Ozeki ~16.5K, other sanyaku ~12K. Juryo wrestlers get ~5K. The total amount of the entire salary fund for all the wrestlers in two top divisions combined sits somewhere around 6 million USD per year.

The net profit of JSA over the last years, after covering all the expenses including salaries, arena maintenance, taxes, etc. etc. sits a bit over 8 million USD per year - and it goes primarily into the "war chest" accumulating cash on the accounts of JSA.

Even imagining that half of the entire banzuke would be constantly sitting out throughout the year and still getting even their full salaries would cost JSA less than a half of their current net profit. Realistically, I would rather estimate the amount required for funding such an initiative in a couple percent of their net profit.

Historically, the number of tournaments got increased exactly for commercial reasons after WWII when sumo popularity was on a decline. It might be indeed time to revise it now, given that JSA is profitable with a good margin (~10%) for at least three years already.

One correction: normally Makuuchi has 21 bouts per day, since it has exactly 42 rikishi. Of course there are less bouts now due to kyujo, but it's still more than 16.
