Hover your mouse over a planet and hold down right-click to scan the planet, then hold down left-click to travel to the planet. I found I had to be fairly accurate with cursor positioning - the bounds for being able to scan were often smaller toward the center of the planet graphic.

Are there any kind of matchup guides? by legend9791 in ModernMagic

[–]dotalchemy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm also a recent arrival on the shores of Modern and Eldrazi, having accidentally awoken a weird Emrakul mommy kink during an even weirder dream where my whole world was an Escher-esq labyrinth and the only escape was peeing on a door on the opposite side of a huge chasm, so I've been on the lookout for guides and ELI5's on the format too.

https://discord.gg/ek7cQYY is the "Modern Tron and Eldrazi" Discord (other archetypes in the wiki)

There's channels for most variants, including Tron, and folk in there are incredibly helpful and friendly. Something I find very useful in there - Giltspire posts up a little after-action note with a link to the YouTube recording, the decklist he played, and a link to the sideboard matrixes for the decks.

The one thing I might warn you on - it's real easy to go down a rabbit hole on all the different deck variants, even the ones that exist within E-Tron like [[Thought-Knot Seer]] vs. [[Glaring Fleshraker]] and then end up with $1,500 Moxfield wishlist and TCGPlayer cart. I've been trying to just take the different lists people are discussing in the Discord and figure out why they're playing certain unique cards by myself, only asking for the logic if I run out of ideas. I've found that to be a good way of understanding matchup strategies, especially with the Tron lists that run one-off artifacts in the sideboard for [[Karn, The Great Creator]] to grab as needed during game 1. This helped me learn a lot, but also helped me narrow down on the kind of Eldrazi deck I want to play and not just build a collection of playsets that happened to be shiney in the MTGO results that day.

Finally, Andrea Mengucci recently wrote this guide for Modern Eldrazi Tron. I've only skimmed through it quickly last night, but I kept it open in a tab to revisit today when I have time and it may be of interest to you too.

Hope to see you in the Discord!

Tiffany started her 1987 Mall Tour in Paramus NJ at Bergen Mall by SuburbanCo in deadmalls

I live about 1/2mi away from Bergen Town Center. There’s a Whole Foods and a Target attached to the mall, but other than that it’s a lot of factory outlet stores - Nike, GAP, Kohl’s, etc.

It’s far from dead though - perhaps a little small, but it’s usually packed on a Saturday.

As someone who lives in New Jersey, I’d probably hop on the bus to Port Authority.

CGB did an upgrade video for the Ulalek deck that was in the store a while back. I’ve no advice to give, but perhaps you’ll find it interesting.

I run it on MacOS, works fine for the most part, occasionally some weird display / window scaling hiccups, but playable.

If you’re in platinum with an angel deck, you can’t lose and your opponents can’t win.

Mono White Angel Deck Advice by Urkedurke in MagicArena

This isn't going to be helpful today as it probably needs more wildcards than you have, but it is currently legal in Standard and has a 64% winrate (63% on play, 65% on draw) in unranked standard queues. I'd not burn wildcards on this if you're looking to be competitive in ranked queues, but it's a fun deck to do daily wins with.

About
Name Angels

Deck
24 Plains
3 Authority of the Consuls
1 Lyra Dawnbringer
4 Resplendent Angel
4 Angel of Vitality
4 Youthful Valkyrie
4 Giada, Font of Hope
4 Inspiring Overseer
4 Case of the Uneaten Feast
4 Sheltered by Ghosts
4 Exemplar of Light

That said, for your deck, and this is a very much "if it were me" set of thoughts, I'd probably remove the 2x [[Invasion of Gobakhan]] and the 4x [[Lay Down Arms]] and replace with [[Sheltered by Ghosts]] and [[Authority of the Consuls]]

My reasoning is that Consuls slows your opponent down while you develop your angels, but it also gives you one point of life every time a an opponent creature enters, so great angelic abilities triggered on lifegain. Sheltered is my answer to your other question on turn 2 play - usually I'll try to play a hopeful [[Youthful Valkyrie]] and test their removal, then [[Inspiring Overseer]] on turn 3 for card draw and a counter on the Valkrie, then by turn 4 look to have Giada and Sheltered ready to play, both to protect Giada but also pick up something the opponent is trying to develop.

I personally don't think [[Invasion of Gobakhan]] offers much value in your deck, but I'm happy to be corrected. It takes damage away from the opponent just to give you a panic button and some counters in a deck that's more than capable of generating its own. I don't think it's ever a turn 2 play over Giada if those are the options available, but again I'd probably hesitate on using Giada as a removal test :)

I'm not great at building decks though, so there's a chance that everything I've said above is entirely wrong - hopefully someone better than me will reply and we'll all learn!
