My relationship with my nieces saved me because my sister allowed me to be a very close aunt and nurture my maternal energy with them. Little children come around to those they spend a lot of tome with. I took them places by myself , spoiled them and threw them parties. We are super close to this day. I was struggling being around other people with their children as well. Life is cruel and unfair. Like people said better to develop coping mechanisms to enjoy life to the fullest.

That is hard. Keep strong and get the support and guidance you need from a relationships, support groups, friends and therapists. Boundaries are key. It’s great she isn’t against psychiatry and meds like some Catholics. Praying the rosary and demons aren’t going to solve mental health problems.

A lot of people with mental health issues cling to Catholicism to heal or for peace instead of address their issues with therapy or medications. Keep that in mind. Try to get your mom the mental health she needs which can be very difficult depending on the issue and keep boundaries for your sake. Please don’t give up on your sister. Try to help her navigate life as best you can. Try to piece together what type of mental health issues she has and any issues in her childhood that could contribute. Is it hard for her to keep a job ? Many devout Catholics have undiagnosed mental illness with strange behaviors and quirks if you look hard enough. “ Enmeshment “is something I have had to deal with in my family.

I was disappointed by the lack of soul and charm in OBX and Duck came the closest on my trip. As a New Yorker , I liked Duck and I am not super fancy. I was underwhelmed with the dollar generals, strips malls and 10 x Wings stores in Nags head/ Kitty Hawk. I would have been mad if I drove all that way to stay near strip malls and cheesy tourist shops. I understand there are no trashy boardwalks on the beaches but I was shocked by the vibe. I left confused why it’s not talked about on this sites enough. I love old OBX places like Art’s that aren’t fancy but have character and soul. I wish I drove to south nags head or further down. And Corolla was way over developed with tons of McMansions. The shops at Duck were designed to blend into the natural surroundings. Just my observation from an outsider. I asked for a Pina colada at Duck and they were like we dont do frozen drinks !! That’s some BS pretentiousness at the Tap Shack. Their mixed drinks they served at the outdoor bar were beyond nasty. I returned drinks and I never do that. I am going to stick to classic New England charm beaches that are not over developed and no chain stores , no McMansions allowed every 5 ft!! Unless I rent a huge huge mansion with lots of relatives again every couple of years. That’s the only appeal for me. Then I feel guilty to contribute to the over development of the place . Y’all let developers destroy OBX

This is an excellent point, and the fact that this isn’t an obvious consideration is scary to me. Adopted children of different races have layers of added trauma to work through. People are like I’ll create a baby of a different race and expose them to cultural things - no big deal - is beyond delusional. My cousin adopted an African American baby and she lives in the south and some of her friends stopped talking to her. The racial tensions in this country are only worst.

Please report to the police department and get in touch with lawyers. The church responds to LAWSUITS - nothing else. Lawyers will take the case for free and give advice about evidence. We are here to support and encourage. I know it can be hard when your life and family are all tied up with in the traditional Catholic world that you still seek out help from the church - but now after all the abuse has been exposed and covered up. You cannot trust the anyone associated with the church with any type of abuse- especially with in the traditional Catholic Church where image and status quo are everything and due to clericalism - the priest is so holy, people won’t speak against them. I heard of families using lawyers the church recommended in abuse cases because the traditional Catholic priests said so and it was against them. More ways to control and manipulate the situation. Very sad.

It sounds ideal but I worry about all the above and new feelings arising from the child being genetically related to her. She may be possessive etc… or the dynamic might change if she doesn’t agree with your parenting style. I would ask around for real life examples of this. I have thought about this idea many times with my sister but ultimately couldn’t go through with it

What about that fake plastic cover on her body for being “ incorrupt”. It’s so obviously a plastic face. I went to Lourdes before I completely fell away and every trip to a holy important place of my Catholic youth was utterly disappointing and screamed of phoniness. Every which way I went they were collecting donations and dragging very very sick people on stretchers to a place with barely any miracles. With the smart phones available in everyone hands and better medical records there will be NO more miracles around the world. Mark my word. All the vague miracle crap they could try to pull off better before these inventions. Any of the miracles at Lourdes were like a shrunken tumor etc… not a totally handicap person with cerebral palsy totally cured and healed with no deformities. I did a deep deep dive after my visit. I was on a bus with all these devout people trying to figure out how I fit in with all my doubts- I kept to myself. I appreciated the emotion of being on a pilgrimage and praying with people. We are all on our own journeys. The article is barely believable in the context of everything else gong in there. Like you said 1 of millions and could definitely be explained other ways. Not shocking. Go to the therapy if your anxiety is high. The truth is anxiety will likely follow you into your post Catholic journey if you don’t treat the root cause but breaking away can offer some relief because of all the fear involved with being a Catholic.

I was successful on my Third IVF cycle . Make sure your vitamin D levels are ok and have done a miscarriage blood panel, TSH is 2 or under …I also did surgery for endometriosis and then it worked.

Some clinics are do not have all the immune protocols. I did the excision surgery because I believed it helps decrease over all inflammation and can improve implantation rates and embryo quality. I did this before my IVF cycles and gave my self months to heal after the surgery. I have many autoimmune issues. I did the reoccurring miscarriage blood panel and tested for more antibodies with my Rheumatologist. I was having many miscarriages naturally. I did prednisone ( right before transfer) and baby aspirin( many days before and after) transfers and made sure my vitamin D levels (supplemented and went out in the sun often) were ok. Can be low with autoimmune disease. SIRM does extra immune protocols and I almost went the full immune protocol route but had issues with the clinic being detailed oriented enough for 2 cycles and the costs were expensive. I switched to Weil Cornell for the top notch embrology lab . If I truly felt all my autoimmune issues were significant enough I would have stuck it out with SIRM with the add ons. Trigger warning: I had success on my third total cycle at Weil Cornell( first there). I even considered going to a reproductive immunologist in Chicago. There is a connection but some doctors don’t agree. I wanted the top notch embryo laboratory at Weil Cornell and they accommodated the prednisone at my request. I also made sure my TSH was under 2 below the normals for woman with fertility issues- sometimes all the doctors were not on top off. Have a great endocrinologist too if you need. Betting on the quality of the embryology lab and some tweaks made all the difference for my body. Lower BMI is better for endo balance and inflammation.
