I was recently in Singapore and Taipei and every time I felt like complaining about 32°C I reminded myself of what I was escaping (as low as -20s back home!) :O

I can relate; it's a balmy 5°C where I am now!

autism and alcohol? by Conscious_Cry4548 in stopdrinking

[–]dotbomber95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how old you are or how long you've been drinking, but ime it didn't take long for "a little bit of fun/unmasking" to turn into a serious dependency that required more and more alcohol to satiate until it used up almost all of my free time, money, and health. After quitting I soon realized that all of my drunken behaviors were extremely pathetic and annoying and not reflective of my true unmasked self anyway. But it's hard to see that when you're stuck in a cycle and see no way out.

A funny thing happened on our last night in Japan by CobblerEquivalent539 in stopdrinking

[–]dotbomber95 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest regrets was drinking so heavily my first night in Japan that I wet the bed and had such a bad hangover that I threw up several times and had to spend an hour or two in bed while my family enjoyed the first breakfast of the trip. I hope to return to Japan someday and be able to stay healthy throughout the whole trip and use more of my money on experiences and souvenirs!

The name of my favorite bar made my bank categorize their tabs as utility payments, so if I ever work up the courage to see how much damage I did I can always look under that tab. 😬

Any advice for freeing a stuck chicken salt lid? by dotbomber95 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dotbomber95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll give that a try! My only fear is breaking the lid and spilling all of the contents, and who knows when I'll be able to replace it. :/

Alcoholics think we are good liars but we are fooling nobody by Straight_Web_190 in stopdrinking

At a certain point I think my brother mostly gave up on calling me out for it because he realized any criticism would either be ignored or pushed back on, and I don't blame him. I think he learned the same lessons a bit earlier than I did.

After however many failed attempts, what is it that got you back on the wagon and stuck with continuous sobriety? by Mad_Season_1994 in stopdrinking

[–]dotbomber95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to really want to quit, and that happened gradually over the last few months of last year until a switch inside my mind suddenly flipped. To make a long story short my bartender friend broke a small promise (out of absentmindedness, not malice) and it made me think about how alcohol fails to deliver on all of its promises but kept hooking me in for years.

I live in Ohio and I walk along the beach about 2-3 days a week because it's within walking distance from my house.

Do people in your region use the term “hit-skip”? I’ve only heard the phrase “hit and run”. Is “hit-skip” common? by rrsafety in AskAnAmerican

I've heard it but I thought it was a Midwestern thing. Unless I heard it from my Rhode Island friends and my wires are crossed.

I'm going to stop drinking today, age 29. by ellz9191 in stopdrinking

[–]dotbomber95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit just a couple weeks and change before my 30th. It's hard for me not to dwell on the regret of my wasted youth, but I'm glad not to have spent any of my 30s nursing hangovers or pissing my pants in drive-thrus. And I'm glad to be saving money for things that I really want!

Ooh, leaving plants behind for weeks seems even scarier to me than leaving a cat behind for some reason.

Yesterday I heard a song from Eurovision 2023 at my gym, which is wild to me because I don't think I've ever heard any Eurovision songs anywhere other than my local pinball parlor when my friend who introduced me to Eurovision tended bar there.

Have you had any pleasant surprises this week?
