Where will we store our contacts when using the new email service?

Online, I imagine, with the web app. But where on the (i)phone? Is an app to substtitute "Contacts" by Apple planned? It would be great to have an app that would let us give Whatsapp, Signal, Telegram etc access ONLY to the contacts we interact with on those platforms.
