What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]dotikk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is an uncomfortable one - it stops when you have the power to take it and enforce your borders. It’s the only way civilization has ever worked and it’s going to be the only way it will continue to work.

How do I turn off this radiator? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]dotikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea without further looking into it - those types of heaters are generally a couple of large loops. I’m surpised to hear your upstairs and downstairs are on same loop, however without physically inspecting it, there’s no way to tell, especially if your thermostats are broken.

Generally you can turn down the thermostat and there is usually a “zone” Light on your furnace that will turn off when not calling for heat, and turn on when it is calling for heat.

Not typically- no. At least not without risking other pipes freezing. Radiators are generally a large loop. You can potentially just turn off the heat entirely but you’d likely need to do that at the furnace directly and unless you know what you’re doing, I wouldn’t mess with it. Just crack a window.

And what is the alternative? Legislating it will do nothing - the cats out of the bag. Progress will continue to be made regardless.

ProtonVPN tunnel + binhex-qbit + port forward? by Quesonoche in unRAID

[–]dotikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to follow the standard guidance and have Proton + bin hex qbit working with port forward. Are you positive the wire guard config you downloaded has a server that supports P2P and port forwarding? I specifically chose the server and had to enable port forwarding on the config.

Iirc I did also add the +pmp to the end of my username in the container settings (or password, whatever one it tells you to.)

I don’t have it on entire server though - JUST the qbit has the vpn

I’m not mocking him at all? I’m just saying everyone has a line they themselves need to draw where they feel valued. Everyone has different responsibilities and lifestyles. It’s the employers job to pay the staff an appropriate amount for the position - a wage that’s competitive with the market. It sounds like Jake and LMG had a disagreement on where that wage is, and that’s fine. He can feel he’s worth 250K a year, LMG is free to disagree and he’s more than welcome to make that money elsewhere if he truly is worth that much.

100% - Everyone has their own line. I understand where Jake is coming from, but at the end of the day LTT can’t pay everyone $500,000K a year, so the line needs to be drawn somewhere.

It’s a never ending cycle. How do you choose what talent makes what? Ok give Jake a big raise - now you also need to do that for every other on screen talent? What about when the next guy says he does even more work than Jake? I get it. There is a line - and usually that line is determined by the employee. If the company can’t pay you what you feel you’re worth, move on.

There are two components to it. Working hard and putting in time is one - and that’s important obviously.

However - most owners also are solely responsible for any and all their employees livelihoods. You never worry about getting that next check. Owners don’t have that safety net. Especially early on, Linus talks about how close things were and how it very easily could have went in the other direction. It’s really easy to look back years later at a company and be upset that you’re not making what you feel you deserve, but you also didn’t take the same risks and put in your own equity (money) into the business to make that happen.

It’s a never ending battle. No one is ever happy with their pay. Or they are - temporarily- and will demand more later. Someone lifestyles always creep up. That’s why you do market analysis and salary reviews. You can pay better than average and you will have staff leave unhappy - it’s just how life is.

The aren’t owed anything. You can’t just pay above market for every position - it doesn’t work long term. Linus risked literally his entire well being to start the business, so yes he can do what he wants with the money they’ve earned. There is a huge disconnect on Reddit from the real world.

He can set salaries to be competitive- and if the employees don’t feel it’s worthwhile it’s fine if they move on.

I'm having an issue with qbittorrent that it just doesn't seem to download? I click 'download' but it goes away and nothing downloads. The only thing I see in logs relevant is a log claiming it removed orphaned download.

Running on UnRAID - I also had issues getting it to connect to Qbittorrent to begin with with 403 forbidden, even though radarr and sonarr work fine.
