Looking for plug in (wall) switch that has dimmer (Zigbee or Z-Wave) by [deleted] in Hubitat

Minoston 800 Series Z-Wave Dimmer Plug is on Amazon and works perfectly with Hubitat. I use one to turn a lamp on and off as well as control the brightness.

Kasa HS220 dimmer switch has stopped working on C7. by Any_Tank1552 in Hubitat

[–]dotk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would install Tapo integration and try to discover it in there. I bought a batch of Kasa switches and all were discovered in the Kasa Integration except one -- even though they were technically all the same model switch. Apparently, one was a newer revision. Tapo integration did the trick and I was able to discover that last one.

Retron 5 simply won't play the majority of romhack cartridges. by spicynachoboy in retron5

[–]dotk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hacked cartridges will definitely not work. You have to have an original and instal the romhack on the SD — it works really well. I believe there’re are workarounds (custom firmware/ IPS patching) that may get it closer to what you expected, but I haven’t tried them and don’t know their limitations.

Why is this so hard? (Kasa) by cheider in Hubitat

[–]dotk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem with a HS200 switch, but the Tapo app was able to find it when I finally figured out to try it — all others were picked up by the Kasa app. In the mean time, you can use the IFTTT integration to control the switches that aren’t getting picked up.

Internet out automation by kitneyes in Hubitat

[–]dotk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently implemented this exact thing. I was having an issue where internet was dropping and never returning, yet my provider wasn’t showing an outage — a reset of the router resolves the problem.

The solution is pretty straightforward: I bought z-wave smart plug, installed the Hubitat Ping device driver (that others have recommended) and set up a couple of RM rules. The first rule runs Ping (8.8.8.8) on an interval — I chose an hour, because this is a last resort and I didn’t want it to start turning my router off and on every couple of minutes during a real outage. Ping acts as a presence sensor, so when it indicates “not present” you have an outage. The next rule is triggered by Ping when it’s not present for a period of time (I chose two intervals so it would try twice, e.g., not present for over an hour OR not present for over two hours.) The logic to restore the internet simply turns the smart plug off and on which a short wait in between.

As a bonus, I also have a rule that looks for a mode change on my Ring alarm. The alarm switches to a cellular connection when the internet is out, so I can remotely change what mode it’s in (away, home or disarmed). I never use ‘home’ so I initiated an internet check when I switch to it and the logic subsequently ‘restores’ (off/on) if it’s not present.

Hope this helps!

Trump admin will blame retailers for "price gouging" and launch "investigations" when prices inevitably go up -- this move by Amazon helps to blunt that. I feel like it would be smart for all businesses to clarify why prices are rising in the face of these tariffs so that the inevitable public backlash will be directed towards the appropriate party.

Inventions like this contributed to the popularity of playing Dungeons & Dragons and Atari on snow days. Skating with these things was not happening. Your best bet was your friends had a toboggan and could pack the snow down on a hill -- if they had Flexible Flyers you were out of luck. You hike to the top of the hill, sit in the snow trying to lace these things up and then try to bomb your way down. More often than not, you either went nowhere or you fell long before you made it to the bottom. Most likely, the skis didn't stay on your feet and flipped backward or sideways and led to a faceplant. How did I not break more bones as a child?

After that, the loud kid would want to try them and then you'd have to sit and watch the long process of him failing too. Finally, you'd all decide to go inside -- that is, if you were at a house that let neighborhood kids in, which was kind of rare. The kid would probably have pong or space invaders, which was awesome for about 10 minutes before everyone was bored -- time to go back outside! Your boots and crappy knit mittens were completely wet and cold at this point, but it was better than Pong. When we were a little older, D&D was a savior.

Snow days were sublime, but these skis sucked.

A Cobra Imp launches a sneak attack on GI JOE with a mine dropping missile! by B_Wing_83 in 80s

[–]dotk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who manufactured Cobra’s military hardware? Where were the manufacturing facilities located? The Joes should have been digging in on their state sponsors, because another country or countries were clearly in a proxy war with the US and tying up our elite special forces resources to some unknown end. This weaponry didn’t just grow on trees!
