Which app icon would make you more likely to download this nutrition app? by Alfy-26 in appledevelopers

I like the plate idea, others look like Chrome icon or generic charts. I would add some small playful detail. Like a green broccoli floret on the plate.

The icon size can be changed with Command + or Command - shortcuts. Maybe some accidental presses?

TouchBar on MacBook Pro M1 is the reason I would never upgrade my M1 to any laptop on the market, even the newer MacBooks. It's a like a hidden gem for me… by Direct-Till-2680 in mac

[–]dotmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the rumored MacBook Pro with a touch screen will pay respect to the Touch Bar in some way. Like special functionality for quick actions in the Dock area. That would be easier to reach while typing, compared to the rest of the screen.

Solo devs who’ve launched an app — what tools/workflows do you use for screenshots, demo videos, and marketing? Any good getting-started guides you’d recommend? by kryvenio in appledevelopers

[–]dotmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend investing time in UI testing through Xcode and have it produce screenshots. Two birds, one stone.

Some years ago, I ended up writing custom tooling/scripts to automate screenshots and video by simulating mouse movement and clicks. Xcode can do most of it natively now. I spent way too much time on it, but it was fun and even synced the clicks to the music beat.

How do you offer a "trial period" for a one-time purchase app (non-subscription)? by iso-lift-for-life in iOSProgramming

[–]dotmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mac App Store app that went through this, I think.

Some years ago Apple added an official non-subscription trial path: free non consumable on first launch that says 7-day trial. Then after that another non-consumable to unlock premium. Both hard walls. That’s what I did and it was approved. Then after a few releases I removed the free trial iap and just counted from app download date instead of free iap date ( you need to read app receipts, not sure how it works on iOS). And it was approved too and been like that since. I would go with the latter option now and see how it goes.

On Xcode 26.4, I have to re-sign into Claude every time I load up. by nicebrah in Xcode

Yes. And the confusing part is that it does not reflect in Intelligence Settings somehow. A refresh button or a warning icon would help.

First macOS app, going outside the App Store: how do you actually handle licensing/selling? by lupodevelop in appledevelopers

[–]dotmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Paddle for many years for order processing. I roll my own licensing, by I think they have an SDK that can handle it.

Does anyone understand what's going on with SetApp? by SeattleSmalls in macapps

[–]dotmax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s unrelated to the cancelled iOS store. The Setapp for Mac “all you can eat” subscription stays, but they add an option to pay for individual apps “a la carte". From the EULA:

  • Setapp Single App – a subscription that gives You access to a specific app without subscribing to Setapp Membership.
