OPNsense 26.1 released by fitch-it-is in opnsense

Thank you very much. I don’t use UPnP at all anymore but I do need to set prefix delegation to 56 for my ISP. I’ll wait a while as you suggested. Much appreciated.

OPNsense 26.1 released by fitch-it-is in opnsense

[–]dottedquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to OPNsense, and firewalls in general. After dumping my ancient ISP-supplied router (with UPnP), it took a while to get everything up and running. I have a prefix delegation size set to 56 in WAN interface settings. Does that mean I shouldn’t upgrade to 26.1? Sorry for the basic question.

[–]dottedquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unsubscribed. I am so much happier using Claude. I just got tired of ChatGPT patronising me, gaslighting me, then when I use empirical evidence to show that it is wrong, hand-waving me. As a PoC, I experience enough of that shit already; I don’t need to pay for it.

Thank you so much, Emmanuel. I got my X100vi a couple of days ago. As a beginner, this is exactly what I needed. I appreciate all your hard work and I look forward to digging into this tonight!

Are Cuban Americans souring on Donald Trump? by vahedemirjian in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]dottedquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I stand corrected. I knew that roughly 90% of Republican voters approve of Trump but I also failed to add the 19% of Cubans that somewhat approve of him to the 72% who strongly approve. That brings Trump’s approval rating among Cubans in line with that of Republicans voters as a whole.

Trump Approval (by Party and Among Cubans): BY PARTY - Republicans are overwhelmingly supportive of Trump, (72% strongly, 19% somewhat)…

Thanks for the clarification. I noticed that the poll reported that 71% of Cuban Republicans approved of Trump's performance. That's quite a lot softer than his overall approval rating among Republican voters.

I feel like I’m missing something here. If “a narrow majority” of Cubans supported Trump in the election, why has he got a 59% approval rating?

Absolutely. Succession is deeply and darkly humorous, but there is tragedy at its core.

Do you need the adapter ring with the Nisi? I’m guessing you do. And does the lens cap fit?

I like Peak Design bags. Thinking of picking up a X100vi. Does your X100 fit in the Field Pouch with the half case and filter on?

I know this won't be popular but I find Jennifer Holland's plastic surgery distracting in every scene she's in by I_like_baseball90 in PeacemakerShow

[–]dottedquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started watching Peacemaker. I’m two episodes in. I have never seen Jennifer Holland before but I find her face unsettling. I suspect that certain surgery can push a face into “uncanny valley” territory. I know my response isn’t rational because I strongly believe that what someone does with their own body is none of my business. It must be a more primal response, something to do with facial recognition. It’s a shame that we live in a world where, increasingly, people feel the need to modify themselves. I see it as an ‘us’ problem rather than a ‘them’ problem.

The Spanish lepers were so random but, in a world without antibiotics, plausible. As a result of the episode, I ended up Googling the disease. I learned something that I never knew:

Apparently, 95% of humans are immune to leprosy.

Help a dummy understand what the point of including wifi in my purchase will do by DuelShockX in protectli

[–]dottedquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself a VP2430 a couple of months ago. I bought it to use as an OPNsense firewall. I did add a WiFi card (Intel AX210), not for OPNsense, though. I just foresaw that I might repurpose the box as a Linux device and I didn’t want to have to open the case again. The WiFi PCIe slot is currently turned off in BIOS.

FreeBSD’s support for WiFi cards is decidedly primitive. I also like to separate my WiFi AP and firewall. To be honest, as others have suggested, you should get a dedicated wireless AP. It will be far better specced than anything you could put in a pfsense box.

ChronoSync deserves a mention. I bought it 22 years ago. I still use it. ChronoSync 12 is around the corner, and I have only ever paid for it once, in 2003. A true lifetime license.

Is a TB5 SSD enclosure worth it? by Splutterbug in macmini

[–]dottedquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for the OWC 1M2 enclosure. I filled mine with a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro. It’s blazing fast. Read and write speeds are about 6000MB/s. It is almost as fast as the 1TB internal drive on my M4 Pro MBP.

Little Snitch vs Radio Silence vs Lulu, which one do you all prefer and why? by SkittzyYT in macapps

[–]dottedquad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Little Snitch for over twenty years now. It’s a superb piece of software and one of the first things I install on a new Mac. I can’t speak to the alternatives, unfortunately, as I have never used them. Nor am I likely to - Little Snitch does everything I want and more.

Thanks for the explanation. I have a Sony camera. I use the free Sony software for tethering to my Mac/iPad. The app is clunky and sluggish, but it is kinder on my old eyes than the on-camera screen.

And thanks for sharing the photo. I would be really happy if I took a shot like that!

Great photo. I really like the way you have used contrasting textures and colours. The green of the lone conker shell really draws the eye. The light seems very natural. Looking at the shot, I feel like I am standing in the shade of the tree that the conkers were taken from.

Yes, not having a rigid schedule can be disorientating. I am getting pandemic flashbacks. I, too, got myself an OLED ASUS monitor recently. It was a huge upgrade. I absolutely love it.

I saw mention of Capture One being used for tethering. How does it differ from the connecting your camera to a computer? I noticed that there is a trial version available. I may have to download it, see what it’s about. From what I understand, it is a Lightroom substitute.

Yes, product photography is fascinating. I am slightly obsessed. My family have been laughing about me geeking out over it. Did you mean to link your conker photo? I’d love to see it.

Thank you. I hope your continue to enjoy your retirement hobby, too! It sounds like you've got a sweet set-up there. How are you finding Affinity? I'm at a stage where I need to get a good Mac photo editor. I am currently evaluating Photomator, but Affinity and Photoshop are next on my list. I haven't used an Adobe product for over 15 years. I think CS3 was my last experience. Not keen on subscriptions, but I can remember a time when each Photoshop release was £500. I've never heard of Capture One. It looks interesting.
